Job Description

Employment Type Internship Application Start Date 05-08-2026 Application End Date 05-22-2026 Location Woodburn Work Style On-site Description The City of Woodburn is offering an internship opportunity for students enrolled in a Building Inspection Technology Program to gain hands on work experience in the Building and Community Development Department. The Intern will have the opportunity to work with Building Inspectors, Plans Examiners, and Permit Technicians; with time spent in each of the inspection, plan review, permitting, and code enforcement functions of the building department. The internship is offered for the period starting in mid-June, lasting into mid-September. Internships are for the benefit of the student and are designed based upon a prescribed educational goal. Incumbents in this role will participate in an exit interview which will include a review of service with department supervisor. Under direct supervision of the Building Official, performs entry-level building related assignments and tasks; may assist with building safety plan review, construction code review and inspection for structural and mechanical inspection services. May also assist with permitting process and code enforcement. This position will report directly to the Building Official but may receive technical direction from other staff. The following are essential job functions, not to be considered all inclusive. Assists with the review and inspection of residential and multi-family development proposals and/or projects. Participates in Pre-Development, Plan Intake, and Pre-Construction meetings. Assists with building safety inspections or plan reviews. Assists with the Development Review process. Conforms with all safety rules and performs work in a safe manner. Acknowledge customers and provide excellent customer service in the office and on the job site.
Experience and Training:
Current standing as a first or second year student at a college at a Building Technology Program. Applicants must be in good standing with their educational program and remain in that program throughout their internship.
Other Requirements:
Must pass the pre-employment background check Valid Oregon class C driver's license and ability to meet the City of Woodburn's driving standards Ability to apply principles and techniques of building inspection and basic structural design. Excellent customer service, communication, and public relations skills. Knowledge of basic computer applications related to work. Knowledge of accepted safety standards and methods used in building construction for residential buildings. Knowledge of basic principles, practices, methods, materials, and tools used in building construction.
