General Statement of Duties The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide technical, administrative, and research functions for programs requiring specialized training and knowledge along with the ability to plan, coordinate and assist with the implementation of such programs. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Supervision may be exercised over volunteer staff as assigned. The principal duties of this class are performed in a police department environment. This is a non-exempt position and is subject to the terms and conditions of a collective bargaining agreement. The Community Engagement Team Specialist falls under the Police Program Specialist classification. For full job classification details click here: Police Program Specialist Examples of Essential Work Acting as liaison between the department management and community, business, and public sector organizations; providing input to the department from outside agencies; identifying community attitudes and concerns; advising the department on public information needs and methods; Assisting in developing and implementing community programs. Coordinating operational logistics for major events; Assisting with event planning and volunteer program coordination; Designing and producing visual marketing and communication materials in support of programs or projects; Developing concepts, graphics, logos, secondary images, and online marketing; Create and implement quality web and social media content, including researching and writing feature stories, articles, and other document types about a program, event, or project for both internal and external audiences; Working with community members, advisory groups, businesses, etc., to determine needs and increase participation in community events. Identifying community problems, developing and implementing short and long-range solutions/prevention programs to address the challenges. Providing security assessments, crime prevention and safety education to individuals, neighborhoods, businesses, and community groups. This person will engage in activities involving marketing, communications, project management, and provide creative solutions in problem solving. Current/Upcoming Projects Neighborhood watch; Paws On Patrol; Farmer's Markets community engagement; Safety Town; Community Academy; Other projects focused on community engagement and outreach. Acceptable Experience and Training Associates's degree in closely related field and 3 years experience working in office administration and customer service; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Licensing/Certifications
  • Valid Driver's License and safe driving record;
  • Basic Mediation course may be required, based on area of assignment;
  • Required to become Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certified;
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation.
