This position performs building, housing, and construction inspections to ensure compliance with applicable building, safety, zoning, and minimum housing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings during and after construction. Review plans, specifications, and construction work for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. Conduct housing inspections and investigate complaints involving potential code violations. Issue building permits, correction notices, citations, and certificates of use and occupancy. Explain code requirements and compliance procedures to property owners, contractors, builders, and the public. Conduct re-inspections to verify that violations have been corrected. Maintain accurate inspection and enforcement records. Obtain warrants and appear in court as a witness when necessary. Respond to emergency call-outs and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus responsible experience in building construction and/or inspection work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of building construction materials and practices. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints. Knowledge of municipal building and zoning regulations and the ability to learn and apply minimum housing standards and related codes. Strong judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with contractors, property owners, and the public. Ability to identify construction and structural deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrections.
Required Certifications:
Candidates must possess the appropriate Pennsylvania certifications. Current Pennsylvania certification in residential and commercial building, residential and commercial energy, accessibility inspections, and plan examining is required. $66,000.00 - $87,500.00 per year
