Job Description
Well Built Inspections is a premium home inspection company serving the Powell and greater Columbus metro area. We do one inspection per day. That's not a typo. Every client gets our full attention, a thorough property evaluation using thermal imaging, drone roof surveys, and moisture metering, followed by a 90-minute Zoom consultation to walk through the report in detail.
Our services include full home inspections, termite inspections, mold assessments & testing, infrared thermography, and drone-assisted roof inspections. Our clients are mostly first-time homebuyers making the biggest purchase of their lives, and we believe they deserve more than a rushed walkthrough and a generic report. Everything we do is built around helping people make informed, confident decisions about their property.
The RoleWe're looking for a part-time licensed home inspector. The ideal hire for this position is a retired (or mostly retired) tradesman who's done with full-time work but isn't ready to stop working entirely. If you spent your career as a carpenter, roofer, plumber, electrician, handyman, facilities maintenance tech, in landscaping or on a grounds crew, or welding and fabricating, you're exactly the kind of person we want representing Well Built.
A lot of skilled tradespeople walk away from the physical grind but still have decades of knowledge sitting there unused. Home inspection lets you put all of that experience to work at a manageable pace, doing something that genuinely helps people make a good decision on the biggest purchase of their lives.
This starts as overflow and weekend coverage, with room to grow if it clicks. You'd be conducting full residential inspections under the Well Built name. State minimum is the floor for us, not the goal.
What a typical day looks likeYou'll perform detailed property evaluations, assessing structural components, mechanical systems, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and exterior conditions. You'll test every accessible GFCI outlet, run water at fixtures to check drainage and pressure, use a moisture meter where it matters, and explain what you're finding in language a first-time buyer can actually understand. When needed, you'll conduct mold assessments and use specialized diagnostic tools like infrared cameras. We're thorough, and we take our time. If that sounds appealing keep reading.
What you need Active Ohio Home Inspector License (this one's non-negotiable). An FEIN- You've established yourself (or in process) as an LLC sole prop. This is a 1099 position. A genuine care for clients and their needs and a love for educating. Real trade experience. We prefer a background in some type of building or mechanical-related trade. Willingness to work with technology. We use thermal cameras, drones, moisture meters, and digital reporting tools. You don't need to know all of it on day one. We'll train you. But you should be the kind of person who's open to learning new equipment. Strong communication skills. Our whole business is built on helping buyers understand what they're looking at. If you have patience and can break down a complicated finding for someone who's never owned a home before, that matters more to us than almost anything else on this list. Clear communication and good customer service aren't extras here. They're the job. Ability to work independently, communicating with clients, agents and other real estate professionals.
You'll manage your own time on-site, work through the inspection methodically, and deliver a professional experience from start to finish without someone looking over your shoulder. Bonus points if you have FAA Part 107 certification (we do drone roof inspections on every job). Experience or training in infrared thermography or mold assessment or testing. Additional certifications in home inspection or related fields. A general feeling that most inspections out there are way too rushed. If that's bothered you before, you'll like how we do things. Openness to performing ancillary inspections such as mold testing or sewer scopes. Compensation & DetailsPart-time, flexible scheduling. We handle the marketing and software and access to Supra key system. Pay is commission per inspection and is competitive with the market with a range of 50-70%. We'll get into specifics with qualified candidatesHow to
