This full-time position administers the City's building-permit, plan-review, inspection, certificate-of-occupancy, property-maintenance, nuisance, and zoning-enforcement functions. The employee will work with residents, contractors, developers, City leadership, state inspectors, and outside professionals. Primary Responsibilities Review residential and commercial plans for compliance with codes and ordinances. Issue permits, correction notices, stop-work orders, citations, and certificates of occupancy. Conduct foundation, framing, final, change-of-occupancy, and complaint-based inspections. Investigate unsafe buildings, nuisances, unpermitted work, zoning complaints, and property-maintenance violations. Maintain records and explain requirements to applicants and the public. Qualifications Candidates should possess knowledge of construction methods, plan reading, inspections, codes, or municipal compliance; judgment; communication and documentation skills; and the ability to work independently. A high school diploma or GED and valid driver's license are required. Three years of construction, inspection, plan-review, code-enforcement, or zoning experience is preferred. Equivalent education and experience may be considered. Certification ICC certifications are preferred but not required. Candidates with experience who are willing to learn and obtain certifications are encouraged to apply. The anticipated certification timeline includes B1 Residential Building Inspector within 12 months, R3 Residential Plans Examiner within 18 months, ICC 64 Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector within 24 months, and B2 Commercial Building Inspector or B3 Building Plans Examiner within 36 months.
Compensation Hiring range:
$30.50-$38.09 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Full career range:
$30.50-$43.10 per hour, plus City benefits.
