•5:00 PM (Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon project or workload) Position Overview The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking a Construction Inspector to observe, inspect, and document site work-in-progress. The role ensures all construction activities align with sealed plans, sound engineering practices, and federal, state, and local permitting requirements. Inspections cover clearing, grading, excavation, backfilling, and structural installations (box culverts, low-flow sections, slope pavements, inlets, manholes, and street sections).
Key Duties & Responsibilities Field Inspection & Compliance:
Perform daily inspections of active sites to verify work complies with approved construction plans and environmental permits; inspect site materials and schedule independent testing for quality assurance; report rejected materials and construction deficiencies.
Contractor Coordination & Walk-Throughs:
Coordinate with contractor leads on schedules, plan interpretations, and material acceptability; prepare for substantial and final completion walk-throughs to generate completion punch lists.
Documentation & Payment Support:
Produce daily written and photographic progress reports; review delivery tickets, invoices, product labels, sketches, and calculations to verify quantities for payment processing.
Administrative Participation:
Attend department, vendor, and agency meetings, as well as required technical seminars, workshops, and re-certification training programs.
The company is looking for:
Educational Mandate:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience Required:
No minimum experience required.
Direct experience in construction inspection or a closely related field preferred.
Mandatory Credentials & Skills:
Active Texas Class "C" Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Ability to read and interpret sealed construction blueprints, technical drawings, and material specifications.
