The City of Murphy Public Works Department seeks to add a Construction Inspector to its dynamic team! The Construction Inspector is responsible for the inspection of public improvement construction including streets, water, sewer, sidewalks, and drainage for compliance with local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and specifications. The position is also responsible for inspecting and policing construction activities within all city rights-of-way including residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with regulations and ordinances as adopted by the City and State. The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid-range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications. WORK PERFORMED
Inspects construction activities for compliance with approved plans, contract specifications and Public Works Department standards; performs onsite inspection of right-of-way encroachments, paving, drainage, sewer, water, concrete structures, sidewalks and ADA accessibility ramps; reports deficiencies to Project Manager, or designee. Acts as project field coordinator for contractors, utility companies, and City departments Inspects and observes construction activities daily. Inspects materials and methods of construction associated with roads, water, sewer, storm drain and other public infrastructure. Monitors job sites and enforces compliance with City policies, procedures and safety standards. Inspects and enforces stormwater and erosion control measures at construction sites during construction. Meets with contractors to discuss inspection issues and concerns; attends pre-construction meetings Provides input during pre-design and assists with design review. Inspects and compares material deliveries to approved submittals. Verifies trench safety is provided according to approved construction plans. Verifies surveying and staking is provided by the contractor. Monitors the testing of construction materials. Collects and conveys information for approval of needed changes to approved plans. Compiles and maintains detailed project records including daily reports and other documentation as needed. Responds to concerns and inquiries from citizens in construction zones and resolves complaints from neighbors in and around the area. Performs any other related duties as required or assigned. Supports City operations with regular and timely attendance at work. Coordinates with police/fire, utility companies, landowners, etc. before and during construction. Researches utility location and rights of way. Performs other related duties as assigned by: During emergencies or other unusual situations, assists other divisions and departments as requested. Working on special projects as assigned. Coordinating maintenance and repairs of assigned vehicle.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED required; Five (5) years experience in civil construction and/or public works projects. Experience in the construction of municipal utility infrastructure projects (water mains/services, wastewater, stormwater systems and roadways) Valid Texas Class driver's license is required and driving record must be in compliance with City policy. Knowledge of state, federal and local laws and requirements regarding construction, surveying and safety standards. Strong written, verbal and organizational skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree from an accredited college in a related field; Valid Class C Water and Wastewater License from TCEQ ; Possess a current Public Infrastructure/Stormwater Inspector (CPII) certification as issued by the American Public Works AssociationSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
May be required to pass a drug screen and/or pre-employment job performance assessment; May be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally; May work extensive hours and must respond within forty-five (45) minutes to an on-call or emergency callback, as required.Similar remote jobs
