About the Role We build custom and renovated homes, and we are growing faster than our current back-office can keep up with. This is a brand-new position created to take the running, tracking, and paperwork off our Construction & Design Lead so he can stay focused on design and building. You do not need construction experience to get this job. You need to be dependable, organized, comfortable being outdoors on an active jobsite, and genuinely interested in learning how homes get permitted and built. We will teach you the rest — permits, utility coordination, plan reading, and field measuring are all learnable, and you will learn them from the person who does them today. If you want to build a career in residential construction and you would rather be handed real responsibility than fetch coffee, this is a good first job. What You'll Do Permitting & Approvals Prepare, submit, and track permit applications — VDOT entrance and land use permits, land disturbance / erosion and sediment control permits, and county building permits.
Maintain a live permit calendar:
what is submitted, what is pending, what expires when, and what is blocking a start date. Pick up, drop off, and run plans and permits between our office, county offices, and jobsites. Track comment letters and revision requests and get responses back out quickly. Utility Coordination Submit and follow new service applications for electric, water/sewer, gas, and telecom. Place utility locate requests (Miss Utility / 811) and confirm marks before digs. Schedule meter sets, service connections, and utility inspections; confirm dates with the field. Document Control Keep one current, correct set of plans, specs, permits, and revisions for every active job — and make sure trades are working off the latest version. File certificates of insurance, warranties, submittals, and closeout documents where they belong. Print, distribute, and post plan sets and permits at the jobsite. Field Measurements & Selections Support Take cabinet and kitchen field measurements and record them accurately and consistently. Check field conditions against shop drawings and flag discrepancies before an order goes out. Verify appliance, fixture, and hardware specs against the approved selections. Jobsite Support Visit active jobsites on a set schedule; capture and upload site photos and short written progress updates. Verify deliveries against packing slips and purchase orders; document shortages, damage, and wrong items the day they arrive. Document punch list items and help drive them to closed. Handle jobsite runs and errands — material pickups, sample drops, key and lockbox management. Coordination & Admin Run day-to-day workflows in
Asana:
create, update, assign, and close tasks so the whole team can see status without asking. Schedule inspections and coordinate subcontractor arrival dates. Take notes in project meetings and turn them into tracked action items. What We're Looking For Required Local to the Fairfax, VA area, with reliable transportation and a valid driver's license and clean driving record. High school diploma or GED. Dependable and punctual — people will be waiting on you at a jobsite at 7:00 a.m. Detail-oriented, especially with numbers and measurements. Comfortable and accurate with a tape measure.
Basic computer skills:
email, Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, PDFs, and using a smartphone to take and upload photos. Comfortable working on an active construction site in all weather. Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and be on your feet for extended periods. Clear, professional written and verbal communication — you will be talking to county staff, utility reps, subs, and homeowners. Willing to learn and work daily in Asana, our project management system. Prior experience is a plus, not a requirement — we will train you. Nice to Have (Not Required) Any prior construction, trades, warehouse, or field experience. Experience with permits, county or municipal offices, or utility applications. Ability to read residential plans, or an interest in learning. Exposure to cabinetry, millwork, or kitchen and bath work. Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, Asana, or similar construction/PM software.
