Job Description
Job description: The Crane Bay Operator is responsible for safely operating overhead cranes and related equipment to move trailers, materials, components, and finished products throughout the production facility. This position plays a key role in maintaining an efficient workflow while ensuring all lifting and material-handling activities are performed safely and according to company procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate overhead cranes, hoists, and other approved lifting equipment.
- Move trailers, steel, components, materials, and finished products throughout the production area as directed.
- Inspect cranes, hoists, slings, chains, hooks, and other lifting devices before use and report any damaged or unsafe equipment immediately.
- Ensure all loads are properly secured, balanced, and within the rated capacity of the equipment.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, welders, assemblers, forklift operators, and other team members during material movement.
- Maintain awareness of employees and equipment in the surrounding work area to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Follow established lifting procedures and all safety rules, including the use of required personal protective equipment.
- Never operate equipment in a manner that places employees underneath suspended loads.
- Assist with staging materials and organizing the crane bay to support production schedules.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards.
- Report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, accidents, near misses, or damaged materials to management immediately.
- Assist with other production or material-handling duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of safe lifting and material-handling practices.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and hoisting equipment.
- Ability to understand load capacities, weight distribution, and proper rigging techniques.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong attention to surroundings and potential safety hazards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and supervisors.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining safety and production standards. Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials as required for the position.
- Ability to bend, reach, climb, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, heat, moving equipment, and other typical industrial conditions.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and other equipment as required. Qualifications
- Previous experience operating an overhead crane, hoist, or similar material-handling equipment is preferred.
- Manufacturing, fabrication, or production experience is preferred.
- Training and demonstrated competency in crane operation and safe lifting procedures may be required before independently operating equipment.
- Must have a strong commitment to workplace safety and following company policies and procedures.
