Job Description

Southern Lifting & Hoisting is seeking an experienced Large Crawler Crane Operator to support heavy lifting operations across oil & gas, industrial, and major project environments. This position is specifically focused on operators with meaningful experience running large lattice-boom crawler cranes, including equipment comparable to our Liebherr LR1500, LR1600, and LR1700. What You'll Do Operate large lattice-boom crawler cranes on complex heavy-lift projects Execute lifts in accordance with engineered lift plans, load charts, and site requirements Perform daily inspections and maintain crane readiness Participate in and understand crawler setup, configuration, boom and counterweight requirements Coordinate closely with lift directors, riggers, supervisors, and other operators Evaluate ground conditions, wind, load dynamics, radius, configuration, and other critical lift variables Maintain strict compliance with OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements Identify changing conditions and exercise appropriate stop-work authority Complete required inspection, lift, and safety documentation Support mobilization, assembly/disassembly, and project execution as required What You Need to
Succeed Required:
NCCCO or NCCER certification appropriate for lattice-boom crawler crane operation Demonstrated large crawler crane operating experience Experience with Liebherr LR-series or comparable large crawler cranes strongly preferred Strong command of load charts, crane configurations, lift plans, capacity/radius considerations, and safe lifting practices Experience working around complex rigging and heavy loads Ability to work outdoors, travel to project sites, and work project-based schedules Ability to pass required background and drug screening
Preferred:
Direct experience with Liebherr LR1500, LR1600, LR1700, or similar equipment Heavy industrial, oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, wind, or other heavy-lift experience Experience supporting crane assembly/disassembly and configuration changes CDL Class A Advanced rigging knowledge A Day in the Life Your day starts early, often before sunrise, reviewing the day's lift schedule and job details. After arriving on site, you complete your pre-trip and daily crane inspection, checking critical systems and ensuring the equipment is ready for safe operation. From there, you work alongside riggers and site personnel to set up the crane properly—positioning, leveling, and deploying outriggers based on ground conditions and lift requirements. Every job is different, but they all revolve around responding to customer needs and executing lifts with precision and efficiency. Throughout the day, you're actively monitoring load charts, wind conditions, and site variables, making real-time decisions to ensure every lift is completed safely. Communication is constant—hand signals, radios, and coordination with your team keep everything moving. At the end of the day, you secure the equipment, complete any required documentation, and prepare for the next job.
