Job Description

Southern Lifting & Hoisting is seeking an experienced Crane Operator with a strong background operating lattice boom crawler cranes, specifically Link-Belt 228, 238, 248 or comparable equipment. This role supports lifting operations across oil & gas, industrial, construction and other project environments. We're looking for an operator who understands crawler crane setup and operation, can safely execute lifts in changing field conditions, and works effectively with riggers and other field personnel. What You'll Do Operate Link-Belt 228, 238 and 248 lattice boom crawler cranes and similar equipment Execute lifts in accordance with load charts, lift plans and site-specific requirements Perform daily crane inspections and identify equipment or safety concerns before operation Understand crawler crane setup, boom configurations, counterweight requirements and operating limitations Monitor load radius, capacity, ground conditions, wind and other variables throughout lift operations Coordinate closely with riggers, supervisors and other field personnel during setup and lift execution Participate in crane assembly, disassembly and configuration changes as required Maintain compliance with OSHA, company and customer safety requirements Complete required inspection logs, lift documentation and safety checklists Maintain equipment cleanliness and operational readiness Represent Southern professionally on customer job sites What You Need to
Succeed Required:
NCCCO or NCCER certification appropriate for lattice-boom crawler crane operation Previous experience operating lattice boom crawler cranes Strong understanding of crawler crane load charts, setup, configurations and safe operating practices Ability to safely evaluate radius, capacity, ground conditions, wind and load dynamics Experience working with riggers and complex lifting operations Ability to work outdoors in varying field conditions Ability to travel and work project-based schedules as required Ability to pass required background check and drug screening
Preferred:
Direct operating experience with Link-Belt 228, 238 and/or 248 crawler cranes Experience with comparable Link-Belt or other lattice boom crawler cranes Oil & gas, industrial or construction lifting experience Crane assembly and disassembly experience Rigging knowledge or prior rigging experience CDL Class A A Day in the Life Your day starts early, often before sunrise, reviewing the day's lift schedule and job details. After arriving on site, you complete your pre-trip and daily crane inspection, checking critical systems and ensuring the equipment is ready for safe operation. From there, you work alongside riggers and site personnel to set up the crane properly—positioning, leveling, and deploying outriggers based on ground conditions and lift requirements. Every job is different, but they all revolve around responding to customer needs and executing lifts with precision and efficiency. Throughout the day, you're actively monitoring load charts, wind conditions, and site variables, making real-time decisions to ensure every lift is completed safely. Communication is constant—hand signals, radios, and coordination with your team keep everything moving. At the end of the day, you secure the equipment, complete any required documentation, and prepare for the next job.
