MUST HAVE

at least three years of substantial hands-on GPR experience. Position Summary Responsible for locating, marking, verifying, and documenting underground utilities in support of OSP fiber construction. This position requires extensive hands-on GPR experience and the ability to independently identify underground conflicts before drilling, excavation, trenching, and handhole installation. This is not a directional-drill steering position. Key Responsibilities Perform private utility locates for OSP fiber construction projects. Locate telecommunications, electric, gas, water, sewer, stormwater, irrigation, and other buried facilities. Operate and interpret GPR, electromagnetic locators, sondes, trace wires, and other locating equipment. Identify nonconductive, abandoned, unknown, or untraceable underground facilities. Review 811 tickets, utility records, GIS maps, construction plans, and as-builts. Verify proposed bore paths, excavation areas, handhole locations, and utility crossings. Identify discrepancies between field markings, utility records, and actual conditions. Recommend potholing, vacuum excavation, or design changes when utilities cannot be confirmed. Mark utilities using approved APWA colors and standards. Record GPS points, photographs, estimated depths, scan files, and field findings. Provide onsite support during critical drilling and excavation activities. Stop or escalate work when underground conditions create an unacceptable risk. Maintain locating equipment, company vehicle, documentation, and daily reports. Follow all company, OSHA, traffic-control, and damage-prevention requirements. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Five years of utility locating, SUE, OSP, or related field experience. At least three years of substantial hands-on GPR experience. Ability to independently operate GPR and interpret raw scan data. Experience with electromagnetic locating in direct-connect, induction, and passive modes. Strong knowledge of OSP fiber systems, conduit, handholes, vaults, tracer wire, and utility crossings. Ability to read construction drawings, utility maps, bore profiles, GIS data, and 811 tickets. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently and clearly communicate high-risk or inconclusive conditions. Preferred Qualifications OSP fiber-to-the-home or directional-drilling support experience. Private locating or SUE experience. GPR, utility-locating, OSHA, MOT, or excavation-safety certifications. viewers, or field-data systems. Experience coordinating potholing or vacuum excavation. Physical and Work Requirements Primarily outdoor fieldwork in active construction areas and rights-of-way. Ability to walk long distances and lift approximately 50 pounds. Willingness to work overtime, early mornings, nights, weekends, or emergency assignments when required.
