Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic team as an HDD Utilities Locator and General Laborer, where you'll play a vital role in the construction of local utility lines. The Locator in a directional drilling crew is responsible for tracking and guiding the drill head during horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations, ensuring the bore path stays within design specifications and avoids existing utilities.
Locating Operations:
Use professional locating tools (e.g., DigiTrak, Subsite) to track the drill head in real time, confirming bore path, depth, and alignment with the operator
Bore Planning Support:
Assist in bore planning based on site surveys and utility locates; mark underground utilities with paint or flags to prevent cross bores
Monitoring & Adjustment:
Monitor the drill head's trajectory during drilling and make adjustments as needed to stay within design specs
Equipment Use:
Operate and maintain inventory of locating equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and keep it in good working order. Keep equipment secure at all times.
Team Coordination:
Work closely with the on-site manager, the HDD operator, laborer, and supervisor to solve site-specific challenges (e.g., rocky soil, obstacles)
Documentation:
Maintain accurate daily logs and reports of drilling activities, issues, and resolutions
Field Duties:
Dig launch/recovery pits, assist with conduit/cable placement, and perform general site tasks as needed
Excavation & Trenching:
Dig trenches, backfill, and compact soil; assist with trenchers, backhoes, and excavator
Utility Installation:
Lay water lines, stormwater lines, sanitary sewers, and other underground utilities; set conduit and perform potholing to locate existing utilities
Equipment Operation:
Operate hand and power tools, vibratory compactors, small hoists, and basic survey equipment. Maintain an accurate inventory of assigned tools and equipment
Site Preparation & Safety:
Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards; perform safety inspections
Support Roles:
Assist equipment operators, hand-digging, flagging, and spotting for excavation
Rehabilitation Work:
In some roles, enter confined spaces (manholes), perform hydroblasting, apply sealants, and repair sewer infrastructure
Pay:
$42,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
