Current employees are encouraged to apply through our careers page at https://unitedutility.com/careers About the Role The HDD/Directional Bore Foreman leads horizontal directional drilling crews and oversees daily field operations for underground utility installation projects. This position is responsible for coordinating safe and efficient work activities, operating drilling and locating equipment as needed, verifying utility locates, reading project prints, communicating with customers and division leadership, maintaining accurate job documentation, and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead HDD crews in daily field operations, including job setup, drilling activities, restoration, and cleanup. Operate horizontal directional drilling rigs, locating equipment, and related support equipment as needed. Read and interpret project prints, bore plans, utility drawings, and job specifications. Verify utility locates and ensure potholing or other verification methods are completed before drilling. Set up and maintain proper maintenance of traffic (MOT) controls in accordance with project and safety requirements. Coordinate daily work activities, crew assignments, equipment needs, and production goals. Communicate job progress, field conditions, schedule changes, and issues to customers, division managers, and internal stakeholders. Maintain accurate bore logs, production reports, daily documentation, and crew timekeeping records. Monitor job site safety, conduct pre-job planning, identify hazards, and stop work when conditions are unsafe. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and project-specific requirements. Ensure proper use, handling, storage, and disposal of drilling fluids and related materials. Train, coach, and provide direction to Operators, Locators, Apprentices, and other crew members. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum 3 years of HDD, underground utility construction, or related field experience preferred. Prior experience leading field crews or coordinating construction work preferred. Ability to read and interpret utility drawings, project prints, bore profiles, and job specifications. Knowledge of HDD operations, utility locating, damage prevention practices, MOT setup, and underground utility construction. Strong communication, leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain accurate field records, production reports, bore logs, and timekeeping documentation. Certifications/Licenses Valid driver's license required. CDL required or ability to obtain. OSHA 10 preferred. MOT or traffic control certification preferred, where required by project or jurisdiction.
