HDD Operator/Locator Atlanta, GA Job Details Full-time $20 an hour 20 hours ago Qualifications Industrial equipment Mechanical knowledge Full Job Description Job Summary We are seeking a proactive and skilled HDD Operator/Locator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately locating and operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to facilitate underground utility installations. Your expertise will ensure precise drilling operations, adherence to safety standards, and seamless coordination on construction sites. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with heavy equipment and contribute to large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring efficient and safe project execution from start to finish. Responsibilities Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) machinery with precision, ensuring alignment and depth specifications are met. Use specialized locating equipment to identify existing underground utilities and prevent damage during drilling activities. Conduct thorough site assessments to determine optimal drilling paths and prepare equipment accordingly. Collaborate closely with project managers, surveyors, and other heavy equipment operators such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers. Maintain detailed records of drilling operations, utility locations, and site conditions for safety and compliance purposes. Perform routine maintenance checks on HDD equipment and report any mechanical issues promptly. Follow all safety protocols and construction site regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and team members. Qualifications Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, tankers, and paving machinery. Mechanical knowledge of HDD systems and general construction machinery is essential. Valid commercial driver's license with a clean driving record; experience with excavator or Caterpillar equipment is preferred. Strong understanding of construction site safety procedures and best practices. Ability to interpret technical drawings, maps, and utility locates accurately. Previous experience in horizontal directional drilling or utility installation projects is highly desirable. Construction site experience demonstrating familiarity with various heavy equipment operations such as grader operation or water truck handling.
