Mid-level OSHA 30 Blueprint reading Telecommunication Workplace health and safety regulatory compliance Directional drilling Underground utilities installation Working on construction projects OSHA 10-Hour Construction Communication skills Full Job Description The Directional Drill Locator is responsible for accurately locating and guiding horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations for fiber optic and telecommunications construction projects. This role works closely with the Drill Operator to ensure safe, precise, and efficient bore paths while protecting existing underground utilities and maintaining compliance with all project specifications and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Locate and guide the drill head during HDD operations using locating equipment (Subsite, DigiTrak, DCI, Falcon, etc.) Communicate real-time depth, pitch, and direction to the Drill Operator Ensure bore path follows approved design and avoids existing utilities Verify utility locates and markings prior to drilling Assist with potholing and verification of utility locations Monitor bore profile to maintain proper depth and clearances Identify and report potential conflicts or hazards Maintain accurate bore logs and documentation Assist with setup, cleanup, and general job site duties Maintain locating equipment per manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines Participate in daily safety meetings and job briefings Support installation of conduit, fiber, and related underground infrastructure as needed Qualifications Prior experience as an HDD Locator in telecom, utility, or underground construction Experience with Subsite, DCI, DigiTrak, or similar locating systems Ability to read and interpret blueprints, bore profiles, and utility maps Strong understanding of underground utility locating and damage prevention Valid driver's license Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to lift 75-100 lbs and perform physical job duties Strong communication and teamwork skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in underground fiber and conduit installation OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification CDL (Class A or B) or willingness to obtain CDL Experience working in high-risk or congested utility areas Team Verita Benefits!
