We're hiring full-time Construction Laborers to join our Underground Drill Crews , installing the fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure that keeps West Michigan communities connected. This is steady, hands-on work in underground utility construction with real opportunities to learn directional drilling, fiber installation, and trenching skills — and build a long-term career in telecommunications construction. Most projects are currently based in the Grand Rapids / West Michigan region, with travel required as project locations change across the state. Why This Underground Utility Construction Job Stands Out Full-time, steady work — not seasonal or gig-based Real advancement path into skilled trades (drill operator, crew lead, utility locator) Key Responsibilities — Underground Fiber & Utility Installation Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment at construction job sites Perform hand-digging using shovels, post hole diggers, and picks Assist with installation of conduit, fiber optic cable, vaults, pedestals, and anchors Backfill and compact soil, restore job sites, and maintain clean, safe work areas Work safely around heavy equipment, directional drills, and active utilities Follow direction from crew leaders and deliver quality underground construction work Work outdoors in all weather conditions, year-round Required & Preferred Experience Minimum 1+ year of experience in construction, trenching, digging, or underground utility work (required) Telecommunications construction experience (fiber optic installation, directional drilling, boring) strongly preferred Experience with hand tools, power tools, or heavy construction equipment Basic understanding of prints, schematics, and jobsite safety practices Qualifications Ability to pass a background check Valid driver's license OSHA 10 certification preferred Ability to lift up to 75 lbs Willingness to travel, work overtime, and stay overnight when/if needed Ability to read basic construction prints and follow instructions Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and team-oriented mindset This role is ideal for an experienced construction laborer looking to specialize in underground telecommunications and build a long-term career in the trade. You'll build on your existing hands-on experience with paid training in fiber and directional drilling work, while working on infrastructure projects that keep communities connected — with a crew that prioritizes safety, teamwork, and doing the job right the first time.
