Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and skilled Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our dynamic construction team. Responsibilities Operate horizontal directional drilling machines to install underground utilities such as water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines with high accuracy. Conduct pre-operation inspections of drilling equipment, ensuring all machinery is functioning properly and safely. Follow project plans, specifications, and safety protocols to execute drilling operations efficiently. Coordinate with team members to set up drill sites, including positioning support equipment like excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks. Monitor drilling progress continuously, adjusting techniques as needed to prevent damage or misalignment. Maintain detailed records of drilling activities, including measurements, depths, and any issues encountered during operations. Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment such as Caterpillar machinery, backhoes, loaders, graders, and tankers to ensure optimal performance. Qualifications Proven experience operating horizontal directional drills or similar heavy construction equipment in a construction or utility installation setting. Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy machinery including excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers. Valid commercial driver's license with a clean driving record; experience with commercial driving preferred. Familiarity with construction site safety procedures and OSHA regulations. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and project plans accurately. Knowledge of construction materials and techniques related to underground utility installation.
