Drill Locator

Drill Locator (Horizontal Directional Drilling - HDD) The Drill Locator is responsible for tracking and guiding the drill head during horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations. This role works closely with the Drill Operator to ensure accurate bore alignment, maintain safe distances from existing utilities, and support successful underground installation of conduit, fiber, and utility lines. This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment. Key Responsibilities Drill Locating & Bore Guidance Operate locating equipment (e.g., DigiTrak, Subsite) to track drill head position, depth, and pitch Guide the Drill Operator to maintain proper bore path and alignment per project plans Continuously communicate with the drill operator to adjust direction and avoid conflicts Interpret bore plans, utility maps, and locates Identify and verify existing utility markings (gas, electric, telecom, water, etc.) Maintain safe clearance from underground utilities throughout the bore Follow all dig-safe laws and company protocols to prevent utility strike Assist with potholing/daylighting utilities as needed Support drill crew with setup, teardown, and general site tasks Spot equipment and assist with moving materials when required Required Qualifications Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record 1+ years of experience in HDD drilling, utility construction, or drill locating preferred Experience using locating systems (DigiTrak, Subsite, etc.) strongly preferred Ability to read and interpret bore plans and utility locates Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check Preferred Qualifications Class
