Job Title:
Entry-Level Driller Assistant Job Summary The Entry-Level Driller Assistant will help with drilling operations at project sites and works closely with an experienced Driller to support safe and efficient field activities. This is a hands-on, physically active role ideal for candidates looking to start a career in environmental, geotechnical, or construction-related fieldwork. Training will be provided. Key Responsibilities Assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of drilling rigs and related equipment Support drilling activities such as soil sampling, rock coring, monitoring well installation, and foundation drilling Help handle drill rods, casings, augers, and tools under the direction of the Driller Collect, label, and organize soil, rock, and groundwater samples following instructions and project guidelines Perform basic cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of drilling equipment Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements Maintain basic field documentation, including sample logs and daily activity reports Communicate clearly with team members, including drillers and site supervisors Assist with site cleanup and restoration after drilling activities are completed Travel to various job sites as required; overnight travel may be necessary Required Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or GED required No prior drilling experience required; construction, labor, or outdoor work experience is a plus Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting 50+ lbs, working outdoors, and standing for long periods Willingness to learn drilling techniques, safety procedures, and field documentation practices Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Preferred Exposure to construction, environmental, geotechnical, or utility work Familiarity with basic hand tools or heavy equipment Interest in pursuing a long-term career in drilling, environmental services, or engineering support Work Environment This role involves outdoor fieldwork in varying weather conditions and physically demanding tasks. The position requires travel to multiple job sites and occasional overnight stays. Adherence to safety protocols and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oxford, MS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $17.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
