Position Overview:

The Surface Driller Assistant will support drillers and the drilling team in various surface drilling operations, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of drilling rigs and equipment. This position offers hands-on experience with rotary, core, and RC drilling techniques, providing a valuable learning opportunity in the drilling industry. The ideal candidate will be motivated to develop their skills and advance within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the driller in operating surface drilling rigs, including rotary, core, and RC drilling rigs. Help with the setup, operation, and breakdown of drilling rigs and associated equipment. Assist in drilling, coring, and sampling operations, ensuring safe and efficient procedures. Operate and maintain drilling equipment, including pumps, compressors, and generators, under the direction of the driller. Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of drill samples and environmental data. Monitor drilling operations, helping to identify and troubleshoot equipment or operational issues. Assist in performing routine maintenance on drilling equipment, including cleaning and minor repairs. Adhere to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure compliance with MSHA and OSHA safety standards. Support the team with drilling progress documentation, sample recovery, and site reports. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at the drill site. Work collaboratively with the driller, other team members, and field personnel to ensure projects run smoothly. Travel to remote job sites as needed, often working in challenging or outdoor environments.

Qualifications:

Previous experience in a hands-on or field role is a plus, but not required. A strong interest in pursuing a career in drilling or the mining industry. Ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes remote environments. Knowledge of basic mechanical and equipment maintenance is beneficial. Strong commitment to safety and a proactive approach to identifying hazards. Good communication and teamwork skills, with a focus on collaboration and learning. Willingness to work long hours, up to 12 hours per day and 20 days in a row. Valid driver's license is required.
