Location Texas (preferred home: East Texas — not required) Travel within Texas is required based on project needs. Summary of Role We are hiring a Lead Water Well Driller to lead field operations for municipal and public water supply wells. This is a leadership position responsible for planning and executing drilling operations, leading the crew, maintaining safety and quality standards, and communicating consistently with our internal operations team. The ideal candidate has proven experience in large wellbores, strong crew leadership, and the judgment to make sound decisions under pressure. Responsibilities of Role Lead day-to-day drilling operations: mobilization, site setup, drilling, casing, and coordination of cement/grout and well development activities Execute large-diameter wellbores and manage tooling and casing programs Manage drilling parameters and drilling fluids to maintain bore stability and well quality Provide clear, consistent communication to the Russell Drilling operations team on progress, constraints, risks, downtime, and schedule impacts Maintain detailed daily reporting and documentation: drilling logs, daily reports, materials usage, downtime tracking, and safety documentation Lead safety culture: JSAs, hazard identification, stop-work authority, and coaching Train and develop crew members; set expectations and hold accountability Coordinate maintenance and basic troubleshooting to protect equipment uptime Maintain jobsite organization, housekeeping, and compliance with company standards Represent Russell Drilling professionally on-site with a high standard of conduct and workmanship Required Experience Proven experience as a Lead Driller / Driller-in-Charge in water well drilling Demonstrated experience drilling large wellbores (Industrial/Municipal/Public Supply) Strong leadership and communication skills (crew + internal operations interface) Safety-first mindset with documentation discipline Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites across Texas Ability to work outdoors in Texas conditions and perform physically demanding field work as required Preferred Experience Texas Water Well Driller's License and/or documented apprenticeship (preferred, not required) Municipal/public supply project experience Top drive and hydraulic power unit (HPU) experience preferred (operation, setup, troubleshooting awareness) Experience with MWD tools and/or real-time drilling data monitoring systems preferred Strong mechanical aptitude and preventive maintenance mindset Experience mentoring and developing drill crews; strong team builder Recommended Resume with relevant drilling history and leadership roles 2-3 project examples, including hole size, casing size, total depth, drilling method, and challenges overcome Any applicable certifications/training (safety, equipment, CDL, etc.) 2 references (preferably a former supervisor/owner and a former crew member) Compensation and Benefits Competitive pay based on experience and leadership level Per diem and travel policy Health benefits and additional benefits
