Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and safety-focused Geotechnical Drill Operator / Lead Driller to operate geotechnical drill rigs and lead field crews on projects throughout the S an Antonio area . This position is responsible for safely executing drilling operations, collecting high-quality soil and rock samples, maintaining drilling equipment, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently while meeting company safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, self-motivated, and capable of leading a crew while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and customer service. Key Responsibilities Safely operate geotechnical drilling rigs and auxiliary machinery to perform soil sampling, testing, and site investigation activities. Lead and supervise daily drilling activities and direct drilling assistants in the field. Perform geotechnical borings. Perform rock coring when required and properly handle and preserve recovered core samples. Observe, document, and report groundwater conditions encountered during drilling. Confirm boring locations, site access, utility clearances, and project requirements before drilling or excavation begins. Maintain detailed and accurate daily field records of drilling operations, drilling logs, boring depths, sample identification, equipment maintenance logs, safety inspections, and site progress reports. Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on drill rigs, trucks, trailers, tools, and support equipment. Drive company pickup trucks while towing trailers and drilling equipment to job sites. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Communicate professionally with project managers, engineers, contractors, property owners, and clients. Follow all federal and company safety policies, DOT regulations, utility clearance requirements, and project-specific safety plans. Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and job site hazards promptly. Travel to job sites throughout Texas and work overtime or occasional overnight travel when required. Support excavation and grading activities by operating heavy machinery with precision to prepare sites for drilling operations or construction phases. Drive commercial trucks as needed for transporting equipment, materials, or personnel between job sites while adhering to commercial driving standards. Qualifications Previous experience operating geotechnical drilling equipment is required. Proven experience operating heavy construction machinery such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, and water trucks in a construction or utility setting preferred. Working knowledge of geotechnical drilling procedures, soil sampling, Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), and rock coring. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic maintenance on drilling rigs and other heavy equipment. Valid driver's license with a safe driving record (CDL preferred but not required). Experience towing trailers and operating heavy equipment. Ability to read project plans, boring layouts, and field instructions. Familiarity with construction utility work including underground utility locating techniques. Knowledge of federal construction safety regulations and equipment safety procedures is essential. Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to travel throughout Texas, including occasional overnight stays. Reliable, dependable, and punctual with a strong work ethic. Preferred Qualifications Experience operating multiple types of geotechnical drill rigs. OSHA 10/30, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR, or other applicable safety certifications. Experience performing field repairs and preventative maintenance. Familiarity with Texas soils and geotechnical drilling conditions. Work Environment This is a physically demanding, outdoor position requiring work in varying weather conditions throughout the year.

Candidates must be able to:

Lift and carry heavy drill tooling, soil samples, and equipment. Stand, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday. Work around moving machinery and heavy equipment safely. Work early mornings, extended hours, weekends, and occasional overnight travel as project schedules require.

Pay:
