Job Summary:

The Underground Telecommunications Operator plays a key role in supporting all phases of utility construction on various telecommunications projects. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment and assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground telecom infrastructure. You believe in doing the job right. Key Responsibilities:

Field Construction & Equipment Operation:

Operate trenchers, directional drills, mini excavators, skid steers, cable plows, backhoes, hydraulic reel trailers, and vacuum excavators. Install conduit, vaults, handholes, pedestals, marker posts, and fiber or copper cables per specifications. Pull and assist in splicing coax/fiber using standard telecom methods.

Field Leadership Support:

Support the Foreman with job-site organization and crew coordination. Work alongside the team in trenching, boring, pulling cable, and placing infrastructure. Troubleshoot field problems and escalate when necessary.

Safety & Compliance:

Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols. Interpret and follow 811 utility locate marks and ensure dig safe practices are followed. Perform daily equipment inspections and maintain a clean, safe jobsite.

Communication & Documentation:

Read and interpret utility prints, construction drawings, and project plans. Accurately document daily production and safety compliance reports. Maintain communication with crew members, Foremen, and inspectors.

Qualifications:

About You:

You are motivated by long-term career opportunities. You're experienced in underground utility or telecom construction. You're familiar with coax splicing, fiber pulling/splicing, directional drilling, and underground placement techniques.

Preferred:

1-3 years of underground construction experience in telecom. Valid Driver's License (CDL preferred). Ability to read and understand utility locate marks and site prints. Experience with telecom carriers such as AT&T, Charter, Frontier, Brightspeed, etc.

OSHA 10/30

certification. Ability to train on various tools and equipment. Military experience translates well. MOS Codes 12H, 3E251, 3E271, and 4305 are aligned with this role.

Physical Requirements:

Lift and move up to 75 lbs. Stand, kneel, bend, and squat for extended periods. Work in varying weather and terrain conditions.
