Journeyman Painter - Commercial Construction Rossi Development Inc. San Diego, CA | Full-Time | In-Person /
Field-Based Pay:
$25-$30 per hour, depending on experience About the Role Rossi Development Inc. is a growing commercial general contractor specializing in commercial painting and coatings, renovations, windows and doors, and specialty construction projects. We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Painter to join our San Diego-based field team. This position is for an experienced painter who can perform high-quality work with minimal supervision and is comfortable working across commercial, multifamily, hospitality, and renovation projects. Travel is an important part of this position. Our projects are located throughout Southern California and may occasionally require out-of-state travel. Candidates must be comfortable with changing project locations and overnight assignments based on company needs. We are looking for someone who wants consistent work, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and is interested in becoming a long-term member of our growing field team. Responsibilities Perform professional interior and exterior painting on commercial, multifamily, hospitality, and renovation projects Prepare surfaces through sanding, scraping, patching, caulking, cleaning, and priming Apply paint, primers, stains, and specialty coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment as appropriate Properly mask and protect surrounding surfaces before painting Produce clean lines, consistent coverage, and professional finishes Perform touch-ups and punch-list work as needed Follow project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards Set up, move, and safely use ladders and extension ladders Work from ladders, scaffolding, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and elevated work platforms when required Protect occupied spaces, landscaping, fixtures, flooring, and surrounding construction Maintain painting tools and equipment in good working condition Maintain a clean and organized work area Follow all company safety procedures and individual jobsite requirements Work efficiently with other painters, subcontractors, superintendents, and project personnel Assist with loading, transporting, and organizing tools and materials Complete assigned work within project schedules and production expectations Requirements Professional painting experience at a journeyman skill level Commercial, multifamily, hospitality, or similar professional painting experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of surface preparation and professional paint application Experience with brush and roller applications Spray experience preferred Ability to complete assigned painting work with minimal supervision Must have reliable transportation Must have a work vehicle capable of transporting painting equipment — truck or work van required Vehicle must be capable of safely carrying ladders, extension ladders, tools, and other standard painting equipment Must have your own standard hand tools Must be willing and able to travel for work Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Comfortable working at heights Comfortable working from ladders, scaffolding, boom lifts, and scissor lifts Ability to safely perform work on multi-story buildings and elevated work platforms Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying jobsite and weather conditions Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds Dependable, punctual, and able to report to different project locations as scheduled Willingness to work overtime when project schedules require it Strong attention to quality and detail Travel Requirements This position is based in San Diego, California , but our field team travels based on active project needs. Travel may range from short local assignments to several days or weeks at another project location. For example, a work schedule could include: 2 days on a project in Santa Ana 3 days working in San Diego 3 days on a project in Palm Springs 2 weeks working on a San Diego project 4 days on an out-of-state project in Utah These locations are examples only. Actual project locations, duration, and schedules will vary. Applicants should only apply if they are comfortable with regular travel and changing jobsite locations. Per diem may be provided for eligible travel assignments in accordance with company policy. Preferred Qualifications Commercial painting experience Multifamily exterior painting experience Airless spray experience Experience with elastomeric coatings, primers, stains, and specialty coatings Experience painting stucco, drywall, wood, metal, fiber cement, and concrete surfaces Experience working on active construction sites Boom lift and/or scissor lift experience OSHA or lift certifications are a plus What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who: Takes pride in producing clean, professional work Understands what is expected of an experienced journeyman painter Can be given an assignment and trusted to complete it correctly Shows up on time and ready to work Takes care of tools, equipment, materials, and customer property Communicates when there is a problem instead of allowing it to affect the project Works well as part of a crew Is flexible when project schedules or locations change Prioritizes safety without sacrificing productivity or quality Is interested in becoming a reliable, long-term member of the Rossi Development team Compensation $25-$30 per hour , depending on demonstrated painting experience and skill level.
