Part-Time (Up to 20 hours a week) Position Summary McGrath Light and Power is seeking a motivated local part-time Assistant that provides hands-on exposure to electric utility operations, maintenance activities, and general project support. This position provides hands-on support across diesel power generation, utility, maintenance, office administrative, and related projects. Duties may include basic labor, brush and vegetation clearing, material and equipment handling, general office support, and other tasks that support crew members and ongoing project activities. Primary Duties & Learning Opportunities Utility & Power Plant Support Assist staff with basic observation and learning activities related to diesel power generation Help with equipment cleaning, organization, and housekeeping Assist with simple inspections, tool preparation, and inventory organization Learn how operators monitor systems, respond to alarms, and follow safety procedures Assist with basic labor activities, including brush, vegetation, and tree limb clearing and removal Assist crew members with transporting and moving materials, tools, and equipment to and from various jobsites General Assistant & Project Support Assist with facility maintenance Help with meter reading preparation, labeling, and documentation Support special projects such as improving workspaces, organizing parts, or community utility projects Assist office staff with filing, scanning, and basic administrative tasks when needed Run errands and set up work areas Safety & Supervision Perform work involving energized equipment after completing required training and under appropriate supervision until qualified to work independently Emphasis on learning safety culture and following instructions Participation in basic safety talks and training sessions Training & Development On-the-job learning from experienced utility operators and staff Exposure to careers in power generation, electrical work, mechanics, and utilities Development of workplace skills: reliability, communication, teamwork, and responsibility Potential pathway to future apprenticeships, internships, or entry-level utility roles Minimum Qualifications Interest in learning hands-on and technical skills Ability to follow instructions and ask questions Reliable, punctual, and respectful Ability to perform physical tasks (standing, lifting light items, being outdoors) Must live locally in McGrath MTNT is an e qual opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
