Job Description

Overview Open Road specializes in custom adventure vehicle conversions. We convert cargo vans into mobile basecamps and design, assemble, and manufacture custom truck campers for everything from Tacomas up to F550's. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, wiring, and commissioning of low-voltage 12volt and 48volt DC power systems in custom van and truck camper conversions. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in electrical principles, schematic readings, and diagnostic tools to ensure optimal performance and safety. Your proactive approach and technical proficiency will help drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and safety compliance across all of our projects. This is an exciting opportunity for motivated professionals eager to apply their skills in a fast-paced environment that values innovation, precision, and creativity. You will work closely with project manager, cabinet crew, plumbing crew, and finish out crew to install a fully functional custom electronic systems. Duties Install, wire, and complete custom 48volt off grid lithium battery systems. Each project will be unique. You will need some familiarity with off grid battery systems, shore power applications, DC to DC chargers, inverter / chargers, and basic solar systems. You will be responsible for running wiring harness throughout vehicle chassis. Install and wire 12V appliances and accessories including LED lighting, air conditioners, roof fans, refrigerators, water pumps, diesel heaters (Webasto/Espar), induction cooktops, and entertainment systems. Mount and terminate distribution components including fuse panels, busbars, breakers, battery disconnects, and shore power inlets. Install and configure system monitoring and control hardware such as Victron components (Cerbo GX, MultiPlus, SmartSolar, BMV), switch panels, and touchscreen controls. Install roof-mounted solar panels, cable glands, and roof penetrations with proper sealing. Install connectivity hardware including cellular boosters, WiFi routers, and Starlink systems.
Qualifications Experience:
Minimum 1+ years of hands-on experience in automotive, marine, or
RV 12V/24V/48V DC
electrical systems .
Schematic Reading:
Strong ability to accurately read and execute layout schematics, wire sizing charts, and system diagrams.
Tool Proficiency:
Mastery of standard electrical assembly tools (crimpers, wire strippers, heat shrink guns, digital multimeters). Attention to
Detail:
Absolute commitment to neat wire routing, secure bundling, proper fusing, and clean labeling.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work inside tight cabins, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs. Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce clean, serviceable, documented work.
Pay:
$20.00 - $27.50 per hour
