Maintenance Electrician United States | req2563 Posted on: 4/13/2026 Back to Search Maintenance Electrician Position Description Under general supervision, the Maintenance Electrician will perform journeyman level work in the design, installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical devices, equipment and systems. Alignment with Theological Positions The person who fills this position must be someone who personally agrees with Biola's Articles of Faith and who is supportive of the positions taken by Biola as contained in its Statement of Biblical Principles and Eschatology Teaching Position. As such, this person may not speak against or act in a manner inconsistent with these positions during the course of their employment at Biola. Department Facilities Management Supervisor Facilities Management Trades Manager Educational Requirements Graduation from high school, supplemented by the completion of a union, private (in-house), military or trade school apprenticeship program, or equivalent documented training, which included both theory and on-the-job work. Completion of 3-5 years of work in the trade, and necessary training, as demonstrated by the possession of a current, valid, California Certified Electrician card, or proof of equal experience and training sufficient to obtain the California Certified General Electrician card. Work Requirements This position requires personal attendance at Biola's campus in La Mirada, California Must have a valid unrestricted California Driver's license. Must have a valid California Certified General Electrician card or equivalent.

Must be physically capable of eight (8) hours of sustained, productive work. Essential Duties Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains electrical distribution systems and fixtures, distribution lines, lighting systems and devices, conduits, generators, transformers, control systems, and fire alarm systems. Installs, adjusts, troubleshoots, repairs or replaces lights, power for motors, interior and exterior lighting control systems, and other electrical devices. Installs and repairs raceways, panels, boxes, supports, wires, switches, receptacles, cover plates, and circuit breakers. Performs a variety of diagnostic and troubleshooting tests using voltmeters, ammeters, circuit tracing equipment and ohmmeters. Ensures that electrical installations comply with Campus Standards, National Electrical Code, California Electric Code, and OSHA requirements. Monitors work performed by outside contractors for adherence to Campus Standards, National Electrical Code, California Electrical Code, and OSHA requirements. Ensures campus fire alarm and emergency electrical systems are operational, and assists outside alarm contractors with certification testing and repairs to alarm systems. Responds to failures, disasters and emergencies involving electrical systems and equipment. Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and retrofitting of existing lighting fixtures and controls. Maintains required records and makes reports. Accesses and retrieves work orders using an electronic work order system, entering time and material information associated with work performed. Prepares estimates and requisitions, as well as places orders and inspects materials required for each project. Performs other duties, as assigned, including, but not limited to, general building maintenance. Required Skills/Qualifications Maintains a lifestyle in consonance with sound Christian principles and those promulgated by the institution. Upholds a high level of integrity in personal, spiritual and professional areas. Self motivated with the ability to work with general direction and limited supervision. Able to read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position. Sufficient math skills to make measurements, perform code calculations and complete estimates. Sufficient communication skills to convey information to co-workers, contractors, and customers. Able to instruct and lead unskilled assistants, to accept instruction from supervisors/fellow electricians, and to cooperate with others. Basic skills at using a computer and/or common office equipment to access work related information. Current valid California driver's license required. In-depth working knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques, materials, tools, equipment, layouts and set-ups used in electrical installation, troubleshooting and maintenance. Basic knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance procedures for fire prevention and alarm systems. A journeyman's level knowledge of the full range of tools used in the area of responsibility, and a thorough knowledge of the uses and purposes of general maintenance, hand and power tools. Knowledge of safe work practices, including California OSHA, Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical and maintenance trades. Perform journeyman residential and commercial electrical work skillfully and in a timely manner, and assist in the work of other trades. Read and interpret drawings, sketches, blueprints, schematics, instruction manuals, and building/fire codes. Meet production and deadline requirements, completing work in a timely manner. Work cooperatively and maintain harmonious working relationships with staff, co-workers, students, contractors and the public. Follow oral and written directions. Maintain accurate records and logs.
