In this energetic role, you'll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex wiring systems that power modern rail infrastructure. Your expertise will directly contribute to the seamless movement of passengers and freight, supporting transportation safety and operational excellence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge electrical systems in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment, bridging the gap between legacy rail infrastructure and modern digital networks.
Responsibilities Installation & Termination:
Install, connect, and test wiring harnesses, control panels, and advanced electrical components for rail systems according to technical specifications and safety standards.
Industrial Networking:
Prep and terminate ruggedized CAT7 data cabling , ensuring correct grounding and continuous 360-degree braid shielding to eliminate electromagnetic interference (EMI) from high-voltage traction power. M12
Connector Assembly:
Pin and assemble heavy-duty, vibration-resistant M12 connectors, strictly matching the appropriate keying structure to specific system requirements: X-Code (8-pin): High-speed Gigabit Ethernet data transmission networks (CCTV, passenger information, onboard Wi-Fi). A-Code (4, 5, or 8-pin): Low-voltage sensor connections, discrete signaling, and basic DC power distribution. D-Code (4-pin): Standard 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet industrial networks.
Standard & Field Terminations:
Land heavy-duty, shielded industrial RJ45 plugs for internal network switches. Strip, crimp, and land multi-conductor low-voltage copper control wires (12 AWG to 22 AWG) using insulated ring terminals, spade lugs, and ferrule connectors onto WAGO, Phoenix Contact, or ARAA binding posts.
Site Retrofits & Cutovers:
Assist in upgrading existing wiring systems to improve performance. Execute circuit cutovers on fully de-energized and isolated systems under tight time constraints during scheduled track outages, while managing as-built discrepancy resolution in aging brownfield environments.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose electrical issues using specialized tools and troubleshoot wiring problems promptly to minimize system downtime. Trace and verify un-documented wiring configurations using multimeters and tone generators.
Inspections & Schematics:
Perform routine inspections of wiring installations to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret complex schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals for accurate wiring setups.
Safety Mandates & Heights:
Follow strict safety protocols during all tasks to protect yourself and team members, ensuring proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are strictly enforced. Safely execute retrofits on overhead structures, communication towers, passenger station canopies, and signal gantry bridges complying with
OSHA/FRA
fall protection standards (full-body harnesses, lanyard anchorage, boom lifts).
Trackside Awareness:
Operate strictly within FRA or local transit authority guidelines regarding track clearance, lookouts, and Employee-in-Charge (EIC) protection to prevent fouling the track. Ensure absolute isolation of legacy vital signaling circuits.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed documentation of all wiring activities, inspections, repairs, and modifications for record-keeping, "as-built" prints, and compliance purposes.
Experience & Qualifications Proven Field Experience:
Proven experience working as an electrical or rail wiring technician or in a similar role within the transportation or industrial sector, with specific exposure to brownfield or site retrofit projects preferred.
Schematic Literacy:
Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals specific to rail systems, including the ability to resolve discrepancies on hand-corrected legacy prints.
Specialized Tool Proficiency:
Ability to effectively use specialized tools including structured cable analyzers (e.g., Fluke testers for CAT7 certification), multimeters, tone generators, outer-jacket strip tools, M12 crimping tools, and calibrated torque wrenches for exact M12 barrel tightening.
Regulatory Compliance:
Familiarity with industry safety standards such as OSHA and FRA regulations related to electrical work, electrical isolation protocols, working at heights, and trackside safety.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, meticulous approach to troubleshooting electrical and industrial data issues.
Fast-Paced Safety Environment:
Prior experience working in a fast-paced environment with strict safety requirements and fixed, tight maintenance windows is highly desirable. Join us in delivering safe, reliable rail services by bringing your expertise in wiring systems! We value energetic professionals committed to precision and safety who are eager to contribute to innovative transportation solutions.
