Job Description

Job Overview Coastal Energy is seeking an experienced Journeyman Electrician to join our renewable energy team. This role goes beyond service calls — you'll handle troubleshooting and repair of residential solar PV and battery storage systems, plus general residential electrical work including main panel upgrades, lighting, and wiring installs. You'll be the electrician customers and our project teams rely on for both diagnosing system issues and installing new electrical work. Your expertise will keep our systems and installations operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant electrical codes. This is a great fit for a well-rounded electrician who's strong on diagnostics, capable of running installs independently, and passionate about renewable energy. Solar/battery experience is a plus but not required — we'll train the right electrician on system-specific work. Coastal Energy is a Florida-based licensed roofing, HVAC, solar, and electrical contractor specializing in Tesla Powerwall, solar panels, Tesla Solar Roof, battery backup systems, and electrical upgrades. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair issues in residential solar PV systems, Tesla Powerwall/battery backup systems, inverters, disconnects, subpanels, and critical load panels. Install and upgrade main electrical panels, subpanels, lighting, and general residential wiring. Perform electrical diagnostics on both high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) circuits to identify faults and resolve them quickly and effectively. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, single-line diagrams, battery schematics, and manufacturer manuals to guide installs, troubleshooting, and repairs. Perform electrical repairs, wiring corrections, terminations, equipment mounting, and component replacements. Recommission and test systems after installs or repairs to verify proper operation, including inverter, battery, and monitoring performance. Adhere strictly to NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), Florida Building Code, manufacturer specs, and local AHJ requirements on every job. Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and electrical testing/diagnostic equipment safely, including on rooftops and in outdoor environments. Communicate directly and professionally with homeowners to explain issues, repairs, and system operation. Coordinate with dispatch, project managers, and the install team on recurring or complex jobs. Maintain detailed documentation for each job, including inspection notes, photos, parts used, and compliance records. Maintain a stocked service vehicle and manage inventory of common repair and install parts. Follow OSHA and company safety procedures at all times, including work on roofs, ladders, attics, and electrical service areas. Represent Coastal Energy with professionalism and attention to detail on every job. Skills & Requirements Journeyman electrician license with 3-5 years of residential electrical experience. Proven experience installing main panel upgrades, lighting, and general residential wiring. (References Required) Experience working with high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills — able to independently identify and resolve electrical issues in the field. Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC) requirements related to grounding, bonding, overcurrent protection, disconnects, and conductor sizing. Comfortable reading electrical blueprints, single-line diagrams, and schematics. Experience with solar, battery storage, or Tesla Powerwall systems preferred but not required. Strong customer-facing communication skills; comfortable representing the company directly to homeowners. Ability to work on roofs, ladders, attics, garages, exterior walls, and electrical service areas. Ability to work independently, manage a daily job schedule, and prioritize work.
