An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.
Work independently to complete assigned service calls and electrical scopes of work. Safely operate and maintain a company service vehicale. Keep the service vehicle clean, organized, and appropriately stocked. Troubleshoot single-phase and three-phase electrical systems. Identify electrical hazards, defects, and code-compliance issues. Diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems, determine the cause of breakdowns, and complete necessary repairs. Assemble, install, test, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, devices, and fixtures. Install switches, circuit breakers, electrical panels, disconnects, and other safety and distribution components. Gather material lists, photographs, measurements, and service information. Measure, cut, bend, assemble, and install electrical conduit. Install various types of raceways and cable-tray systems. Troubleshoot motors and electrical control systems as needed. Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer installation manuals. Follow company safety standards, procedures, and applicable electrical codes. Safely work from ladders and operate various types of aerial lifts. Qualifications Minimum of five years of electrical service technician experience. Commercial electrical service experience is required. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Self-motivated and able to work independently without direct oversight. Professional communication and customer-service skills. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to pass a drug screening and criminal background check. Ability to safely work from ladders and lifts.
