Job Description
Electrician Position Overview The Electrician is a skilled trade position responsible for the installation, wiring, and connection of electrical systems on Ideal Energy's solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. This role is primarily dedicated to community solar installations, with occasional assignments supporting commercial and industrial (C&I) or residential solar projects as business needs require. The Electrician performs both self-directed and supervised electrical work in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), state licensing requirements, and Ideal Energy safety and quality standards, including DC array wiring, combiner and inverter connections, AC interconnection, and grounding/bonding systems. This role works closely with the Senior Lead Electrician, Warehouse, Inventory and Procurement Manager, the Project Management team, and the field staff to ensure electrical scopes are completed safely, on schedule, and to code. Electricians may also provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to Electrician Apprentices and Laborers assigned to their crew. This role requires a significant amount of travel — up to approximately 80% of the time — to jobsites across Iowa and Illinois, including multi-day assignments to rural and remote project sites. Expectations and Responsibilities Electrical Installation Install, terminate, and troubleshoot DC and AC electrical systems for ground-mount and rooftop solar PV arrays, primarily on community solar projects Perform module string wiring, combiner box and recombiner installation, inverter connections, and AC interconnection to the point of utility interconnection Install grounding and bonding systems, conduit runs, cable tray, and wire management in accordance with approved electrical drawings Support occasional electrical scopes on commercial, industrial, or residential solar projects as assigned Code Compliance & Quality Perform all work in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local amendments, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and site plans to ensure accurate installation Complete work to pass electrical inspections on first submission; correct any deficiencies identified during inspection or QA/QC review Maintain accurate as-built documentation of electrical installations Safety & Site Conditions Comply with all OSHA regulations, Ideal Energy safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements at all times Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, or code violations Use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow lockout/tagout and arc-flash procedures for energized work Work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions typical of outdoor construction sites Team Collaboration & Mentorship Collaborate with Construction Managers, Superintendents, and crew members to sequence electrical work within the overall project schedule Provide on-the-job guidance and mentorship to Electrician Apprentices and Laborers assigned to the crew Communicate material, tool, and equipment needs to support timely completion of assigned scopes Documentation & Reporting Maintain daily logs of work performed, materials used, and any field issues encountered Support the Electrical Manager and Construction Manager with documentation needed for utility interconnection and inspection sign-off Perform other duties as required Qualifications Required Active Electrician license issued by the State of Iowa, or an active electrician license from another state recognized through reciprocity with the State of Iowa 3+ years of hands-on electrical installation experience; solar/renewable energy experience strongly preferred Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable OSHA safety standards Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and site plans Experience with PV-specific electrical work, including DC wiring, string sizing, combiner boxes, inverters, and AC interconnection Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, working at heights, and standing/walking for extended periods Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites across Iowa and Illinois Ability to travel up to approximately 80% of the time, including multi-day assignments to remote and rural jobsites Must be eligible to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship Preferences Master Electrician license Experience with community solar or utility-scale ground-mount PV systems Experience with medium-voltage AC systems and switchgear OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification Prior experience mentoring apprentices or leading small crews Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Ideal Energy, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
