An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.

Job Description
Include:
Read and interpret drawings, job tickets and plan jobs accordingly and requisition the proper quantities of materials. Troubleshoot inoperative equipment. Install and repair lighting devices. Install electric motors and motor control devices. Install conduit and other types of wire Pull electrical conductors and connect in proper order Schedule Monday through Friday, 08:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Due to the critical operational needs of the department, this position may be required to work overtime and participate in the Facilities Management Standby Program. Location University of Iowa campus Starting pay rate for the three classification levels:Electrician II:
$59320.08Electrician III:
$64748.88 •A higher starting pay rate may be requested based on exceptional qualifications.Electrician II:
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Requires State of Iowa Class A Journeyman Electrician license with at least four years as an apprentice plus two years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or State of Iowa Class B Journeyman Electrician license with eight years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction.Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.Desired Qualifications:
Experience troubleshooting and installing systems ranging from 24 volts to 480 volts Experience with lighting controls Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor controls Demonstrate basic computer experience Experience using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) Ability to communicate effectively Ability to follow oral and written instructions Good customer interaction skills Ability to work in a team setting Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectivesElectrician III Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
