Electro-Mechanical Control Systems Technician

Imagine this:

a complex production line pauses with a cryptic alarm. You trace signals through schematics, inspect power at 120/208/240/480V, step into the PLC logic to diagnose the exact rung, and deploy a fix that prevents a recurrence. Later, you run infrared and ultrasonic surveys, verify precision with laser interferometry and ball-bar checks, and apply vibration analysis to predict bearing wear. You lead a quick CI blitz, source a better component, and document the improvement in the CMMS. Before day's end, you draft inputs for a capex cost analysis, provide technical details for a customer quotation, mentor a teammate, and—when needed—act as a project manager to keep deliverables on track. What you will do Deliver expert break/fix and preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment; design enhancements for complex, integrated systems. Program, troubleshoot, and analyze advanced control systems to resolve software, hardware, and configuration challenges. Employ predictive maintenance tools—infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, power quality analysis, laser interferometry, ball bar, and vibration analysis—to evaluate equipment condition and drive proactive actions. Lead and contribute to continuous improvement using standardized CI tools to improve processes, outcomes, and cost efficiency. Find and procure parts and supplies; recommend engineered alternatives to improve system reliability. Perform work independently to industry standards; uphold 5S and spotless housekeeping. Set up and operate machining equipment (lathe, drill press, grinder) and perform welding to fabricate or repair parts when necessary. Research methods, tools, and innovations; deploy best practices across our facilities and update technical documentation. Provide inputs for cost analyses on new assets, repair/rebuild proposals, savings, and innovation projects. Maintain meticulous records; review CMMS history and analyze data to inform decisions. Support commercial efforts with technical content for quotations; execute time-and-materials tasks as needed. Train and coach developing technicians; assume project management responsibilities when assigned. Pursue ongoing on-the-job training and self-study; follow all safety procedures and maintain strong situational awareness. Your background High school diploma or GED. Associate degree (technical) plus 7+ years in the industry; or 10+ years of relevant industry experience. Demonstrated proficiency in predictive technologies (vibration analysis, laser interferometer), precision alignment, and maintenance of process equipment. Deep understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; capable of diagnosing issues, developing alternatives, and executing repairs. Competent with hand tools and specialty tooling; willing to travel as required. Six Sigma exposure preferred. Physical demands and working conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands/fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use close vision and color vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work is typically performed in a factory environment and is usually very loud. In the factory environment, the employee may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or greasy or slippery factory floors.
