An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.

7% on your current salary, whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, if position is 3 grades or higher than current position) Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved. The purpose of this classification is to establish an employment list to fill vacancies in the Maintenance of Public Buildings Department, and future vacancies, as they may occur, to engage in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and components in government buildings for the City of Alexandria. Systems range from residential to 480 volts, and include emergency generators, three phase motors and control devices and circuits.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED, vocational or technical school training in electric construction and technology; supplemented by significant working experience in maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems; including three phase industrial systems, equivalent to that of a journey-level electrician; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Journey-level licensed Electrician is desired, as is knowledge of the applicable Electrical Construction Codes. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM; May work some weekends. Kind of Examination This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants. Examination notices will be sent out via email with a testing date, time, and location. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification. Must include copies of driver's license, diploma, GED, DD214, degree, etc. with application.
