An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.

OVERVIEW
The Shift Electrician Lays out, assembles, installs, maintains, repairs, and tests complicated electrical and closely allied equipment such as such as starters, electrical motors, switches, switchboards, electrical circuits, etc., using tools such as volt meters, mega and amp meters, etc.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigned to maintenance and repairs, but also performs construction work when required.
Performs work assigned by supervisor, but in the absence of Electrical Supervisor performs work in response to orders from Shift Engineer or requests from other departments. In the absence of Electrical Supervisor on the second and third shifts, makes certain minor decisions, including the assignment of job priorities. Contacts Shift Engineer in regard to major decisions.
Plans major and difficult installations from blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Installs, connects, and repairs complicated interlocks.
Splices high voltage wires and solders high voltage connections.
Instructs lower mechanics in the proper performance of their duties as may be required.

WORK EXPERIENCES
Four years industrial electrical experience within a refinery.
PLC knowledge/experience will be considered a plus.
Expereince with 480 Voltage or higher is required.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school education or equivalent
NCCER Certification
Electrician License required.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES
Must have an expert knowledge of turbine and switchboard equipment and electrical distribution systems. When working on second and third shifts, must be able to make certain decisions affecting refinery operations.
Must be able to read blueprints, be familiar with the principles of electricity, and with the construction and functioning of electrical equipment in accordance with applicable codes.
Must have good electrical troubleshooting skills.
Must be able to use electrician's tools and shop equipment and be able to install, connect, and repair electrical equipment.
Must be able to withstand considerable physical effort including standing or walking, climbing, lying in a prone position, crouching, kneeling, carrying, pulling, and pushing.
Must have ability to work on scaffolds or ladders safely
Must be able to frequently lift moderately heavy materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
This position requires the flexibility to work various shifts, including Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and overtime, as needed. Weekend shifts may be mandated based on business needs.
