MAJOR DUTIES

Performs electrical repair, wiring and service to Town buildings. Performs adjustments and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment controls. Installs new or replacement electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures as required. Responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, adjusting, and repairing a wide variety of standard and specialized electrical equipment, precision instruments, electric motors, and controls commonly found at water and wastewater facilities, including the adjustment of process control loops and other such activities. Maintains, repairs, and replaces street lights and traffic signals. Establishes and executes a preventative maintenance plan for traffic and street lights. Reads and interprets complex instrumentation and control drawings, diagrams, and control logic sequences. Selects and obtains appropriate materials, tools, and/or equipment for each job. Uses ladders, staging, rigging, and other equipment to gain access to job sites and to install and remove equipment. Removes snow from immediate work area in order to perform duties as necessary. Performs cleanup and housekeeping for work area and for other light maintenance tasks. Documents and reports all work in the proper location and filing system. Budgets for electrical operations and projects, including traffic signal and street lighting infrastructure. Coordinates work requirements and scheduling with other Town Departments and DPW Division Directors. Responsible for coordination and scheduling of outside contractors. Maintains work records for supervisees and submits weekly time records. Prepares daily report of all division activities. Responds to emergency situations as appropriate. Follows established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures and policies. Performs work in a safe and professional manner and in conformance with relevant building and electrical codes. Acts as Essential Personnel. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent PLUS ten (10) years of experience as an Electrician; OR a combination of education and experience that demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position Thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Electrical Code and other applicable codes Strong understanding of the principles, theory, and method of programming analog and digital electronics, electro-mechanics, and instrumentation of computer based control systems Comprehensive understanding of pumps, compressors, generators, and other equipment common to the water/wastewater industry Thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal devices including the ability to adjust and change signal settings Extensive knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, occupational hazards, and safety practices common to the trade, as well as the hazards common to water and wastewater facilities Ability to work from wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams, blueprints, manufacturer?s manuals and specifications, sketches, and verbal instructions to install, maintain, calibrate, repair and troubleshoot a wide range of electrical instrumentation and computer based control systems Basic reading, writing, mathematical, and verbal communication skills Ability and willingness to act as Essential Personnel.
