What they do

An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.

Job Description

Administrative, technical and inspection work in enforcing provisions of the Massachusetts Electrical Code as it applies to electrical installations. Performs duties on an on-call as needed basis to fill in for the Wire Inspector in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma, more than five years experience in the supervision of electrical systems installed for residential, commercial and industrial construction; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician license. Class D drivers license required.
Additional Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Electrical Code. Thorough knowledge of all types of electrical installations in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Some knowledge of the principles of electrical engineering as it applies to electrical appliances and wiring installations. Ability to maintain complete and accurate records. Ability to prepare reports. Some familiarity with computers including word processing, spreadsheet and database.
