The Department of Corrections is accepting applications for a Correctional Electrical and Electronics Supervisor position at the Maine State Prison, in Warren, Maine. Applicants must be willing to participate in stand-by rotation and work holidays and snow days, when necessary. This position is open to DOC employees and all outside applicants.DESCRIPTION
This is structure and craft work in supervising the electrical maintenance program and/or electronic systems of a correctional facility. Work includes planning, assigning, and supervising the work of a Correctional Electrician II, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment and electronic systems; and instructing, overseeing and monitoring residents who are Licensed Electrical Helpers. This class is differentiated from the Correctional Electrician II classification in that a major portion of this job is spent planning, directing, and supervising the work of others and developing and carrying out an electrical maintenance program.REPRESENTATIVE TASKS
Plans, directs, and oversees the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems to ensure work is performed safely and conforms to electrical code. Direct and inspect the installation and maintenance of light and power circuits to ensure circuits are installed properly and are functioning correctly. Plans, directs, monitors, inspects, and participates in wiring of various state-owned buildings during construction or remodeling to ensure work is performed in accordance with electrical code. Orders and maintains inventory of materials and equipment to maintain an adequate inventory of electrical supplies. Plans jobs to ensure proper repair, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems. Records various procedures to maintain accurate and up-to-date records. Inspects electrical systems, projects, equipment, and buildings to ensure safe and proper functioning. Monitor and control residents' behavior to accomplish assigned tasks and maintain institutional security. Supervise and instruct residents to work on electrical projects to ensure work is accomplished correctly and safely. Implement and comply with human resource laws, policies, procedures and practices such as: AA/EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, human resource components of security protocols of agency information security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety.KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures. Knowledge of the State and National Electrical Code. Knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrical and electronic trade. Knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity. Knowledge of basic electronic theory and principles. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade. Knowledge of environmental operating parameters and security systems of the buildings. Knowledge of authorized building access rules and procedures. Knowledge of fiber optics and cables used for communication. Ability to supervise subordinate personnel. Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical integrated electronic and security system problems. Ability to do research on technical systems, equipment, hazards, methods, practices and to make recommendations to management. Ability to schedule installation of devices for new or existing security system components. Ability to plan, assign, and evaluate the work of others. Ability to interpret and work from sketches, diagrams, and blueprints. Ability to keep records and files. Ability to estimate materials required for a job. Ability to detect and repair defects in a variety of electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Ability to use and care for tools and equipment used in the electrical/electronic trade. Ability to use applicable computer programs.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A High School Diploma or equivalent and a current valid Master Electrician's license as issued by the Electrician's Examining Board and two (2) years' experience at the Master level.
