An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.
The Industrial Electrician Journeyman is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment within a manufacturing facility. This role ensures optimal operation of production machinery, including stamping presses and automated systems, while maintaining safety, quality, and uptime standards.
JOB TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job/task functions have been identified as the core functions of this position. However, the supervisor or manager may assign additional duties associated with this position. Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including power distribution, control panels, and industrial wiring. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in stamping presses, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and automated production equipment. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on presses and related equipment. Work with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) to diagnose faults and assist in programming adjustments. Maintain and repair motors, drives, sensors, relays, and control systems. Ensure compliance with
OSHA, NFPA
70E, and company safety standards. Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimize downtime in a fast-paced production environment. Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve equipment reliability. Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage.
Journeyman Electrician certification 8+ years of industrial electrical experience (manufacturing environment preferred). Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems Experience with stamping presses or heavy manufacturing equipment. Ability to read electrical prints and troubleshoot complex systems. Familiarity with PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens). Understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics is a plus. Ability to work shifts and overtime as needed.
