An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities Perform general repairs and replacements to damaged, deteriorated or otherwise non-functioning conditions found in and about the University buildings and campus. Apply journeyman level knowledge and experience in electrical, carpentry or plumbing. Additional experience must encompass a basic knowledge from three of the following disciplines: carpentry, plumbing. electrical and painting. Apply skill and responsibility in the use of tools and equipment of respective trades and be responsible for tools, materials and devices to perform tasks according to accepted practices. Perform related duties as required to accomplish tasks.
NOTE:
This is a coverage position filling in for other days and shifts as required by University needs.
Primary Schedule:
Sunday & Monday 3pm
  • 11:30pm, Tues.
  • Thurs. 7am
  • 3:30pm Coverage Position
  • covering for other days and shifts required by University needs
Days Off:
Friday and Saturday Minimum Qualifications High School diploma (or equivalent) required. Two (2) years of experience in journeyman trades level work is required. May consider specific coursework related to this position, toward the journeyman trades experience. Requires operation of equipment related to the trade. Bending, heavy lifting, climbing ladders, and stairs. Ability and willingness to follow verbal and written reports and utilize the work order system. Candidate must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be comfortable working with all members of the university community, including fellow workers, staff, faculty, senior staff and the president. Must be able to meet University requirements to be authorized to drive University vehicles. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of experience in journeyman trades level work is required. May consider specific coursework related to this position, toward the journeyman trades experience.
Salary SEIU Level E:
$19.78
