We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated New York Licensed Electrical Qualifier / Responsible Electrician to join our team on a part-time, consulting basis. The ideal candidate will currently hold active electrical licenses in multiple counties and/or jurisdictions throughout New York and be able to serve as the qualifying or responsible electrician for the company where permitted. Candidates who also hold an active New Jersey electrical license are strongly preferred. This role is essential for ensuring electrical projects comply with local codes, safety standards, and industry best practices. As a Responsible Electrician, you will oversee electrical installations, inspections, and troubleshooting across various construction and renovation sites. Your expertise will help maintain high-quality standards while supporting project teams in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant electrical systems. Duties Serve as the Licensed Electrical Qualifier / Responsible Electrician for the company in applicable New York counties and jurisdictions. Maintain qualifying licenses and assist with licensing, permitting, renewals, and compliance requirements as needed. Review and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide installation and troubleshooting efforts. Supervise and inspect electrical work on construction sites, ensuring adherence to the NEC (National Electrical Code) and local regulations. Conduct on-site inspections of low-voltage and high-voltage systems, verifying proper installation and safety compliance. Utilize hand tools, power tools, ohmmeters, and other testing equipment to diagnose electrical issues accurately. Provide guidance on the installation of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial control systems, and automation components. Ensure all work meets safety standards by performing risk assessments and enforcing proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and electricians to coordinate installation schedules and resolve technical challenges efficiently. Support permitting, inspections, and communication with local authorities having jurisdiction as needed. Requirements Must currently hold active electrical licenses in multiple New York counties and/or local jurisdictions. Ability and willingness to associate qualifying licenses with the company where legally permitted and required. Active New Jersey electrical license strongly preferred. Proven experience as an industrial or commercial electrician with a strong understanding of NEC standards. Demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading, schematics, and construction drawings. Hands-on experience with low-voltage systems, high-voltage installations, and renovation projects. Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), schematics, and control wiring. Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, ohmmeters, and other electrical testing devices safely and effectively. Construction site experience with a focus on safety protocols and quality assurance in fast-paced environments. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues efficiently. Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and documenting inspection reports. Additional nice-to-have skills include handyman experience, frame carpentry knowledge, industrial electrical experience, construction experience, renovation expertise, low-voltage systems familiarity, high-voltage safety practices, and strong NEC code knowledge. Compensation & Benefits Compensation is competitive and will be determined based on experience, licensing coverage, and the scope of the qualifying relationship . Candidates holding active licenses across multiple New York counties/jurisdictions and/or an active New Jersey electrical license may be considered for compensation reflective of that additional licensing coverage.
