The position is also responsible for the research, design, development, testing, or supervision of the installation of electrical equipment, components, and systems across the Company's fleet. Performs maintenance on generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, and alarm and lighting circuits. Assists in the establishment of preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems and facilities. In conjunction with supervisors, plans and schedules work to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing for subsequent performance of duties. Troubleshoots electrical equipment and circuits using test equipment to detect and effect repairs or replacement requirements. Wires and connects electrical systems, completing circuitry and testing systems using ohmmeters, voltmeters, and other electrical testing equipment. Interprets schematics, manufacturers' specifications, and written and verbal instructions. Coordinates with manufacturers on installation requirements for new electrical systems onboard vessels. Uses computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information. Observes, receives, and otherwise obtains information from all relevant sources. Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Identifies the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down data into separate parts. Provides information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Knowledge / Qualifications

Must have relevant experience in the marine industry or performing work of comparable characteristics, with a working knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits. Advanced knowledge of AC and DC electrical theory. Advanced knowledge of grounding in marine applications. Ability to direct the work of contractors, helpers, or junior technicians as assigned. Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. As a condition of a conditional offer of employment, candidates must pass a Company-administered drug and alcohol screening and a post-offer criminal background check, consistent with Oregon and City of Portland fair-chance hiring requirements. Working Conditions Shaver Transportation conducts its business at all hours of the day and night, in all types of weather conditions. Responsibilities may require work in unfavorable weather conditions aboard vessels. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration, and is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Physical Requirements Must have the ability to stand and walk; to bend, rotate, and reach frequently; to carry, push, pull, and/or lift materials weighing in excess of 50 lbs.; to ascend and descend stairs and ladders safely; and to maneuver through, in, and around small, tight, and confined spaces within the Company's vessels and barges. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Hourly (non-exempt), consisting of 40 hours per week with occasional overtime. Travel Occasional travel will sometimes be necessary. Preferred Education and Experience Five years of relevant experience in the marine industry, or work of comparable characteristics.
