Full Job Description Industrial Maintenance Technician Classification:
Non-Exempt Schedule:
2×2×3 (12 hours) Position Summary Ensures operation of production machinery and supporting systems by completing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on motors, electrical controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and mechanical assemblies. Performs troubleshooting of complex malfunctions using electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical diagnostic techniques. Qualified Technicians must demonstrate the ability to perform intermediate-to-advanced troubleshooting of PLC-based equipment, AC/DC power circuits up to 480 V 3-phase, and hydraulic/pneumatic circuits while maintaining strict adherence to OEM preventive maintenance standards, safety policies, and quality expectations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follow all safety, health, and environmental procedures and protocols including Lock-Tag-Verify, elevated work and fall protection, confined space, forklift operation, and hot-work standards. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems as prescribed by OEM documentation and internal maintenance programs. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems including motors, relays, contactors, limit switches, photoeyes, sensors, and control circuits operating at 24 V
DC, 120 V AC, 240 V
AC, and 480 V 3-phase. Diagnose and program variable-frequency drives (VFDs) and interface with PLCs (Allen-Bradley /Rockwell preferred) for basic logic adjustments and fault tracing. Inspect, rebuild, and align mechanical assemblies such as pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, and drive systems to maintain design tolerances. Troubleshoot and service hydraulic and pneumatic circuits including valves, regulators, cylinders, and proportional controls. Perform basic welding, cutting, and fabrication in support of mechanical repairs or equipment modifications. Utilize precision measurement tools, alignment lasers, and test instruments to ensure equipment reliability and adherence to OEM standards. Maintain accurate maintenance records, communicate irregularities, and coordinate resolution of abnormalities with the planning and production departments. Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in the refinement of preventive maintenance programs through analysis of performance data. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Abilities Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of plant safety systems such as Lock-Tag-Verify / Lock-out-Tag-out, elevated work and fall protection, confined space entry, forklift safety, and hot-work authorization. Minimum 5 to 10 years of maintenance experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong working knowledge of electrical systems up to 480 V 3-phase, including controls, sensors, and power distribution. Proven experience in Allen-Bradley /Rockwell PLC troubleshooting and VFD programming. Ability to read, interpret, and update electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics and drawings. Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems, including proportional and directional valve assemblies. Skilled in mechanical alignment, bearing replacement, and precision assembly techniques. Capable of performing welding and light fabrication for equipment restoration and improvement. Demonstrated critical-thinking ability with strong root-cause analysis and corrective-action skills. Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
Vibration / Motion
Amplification or Infrared Thermography certifications preferred but not required. Experience in injection-molding, extrusion, or other continuous industrial processes is preferred but not required. Physical Demands The employee in this role will be primarily standing while performing assigned duties. Frequent walking, manual handling of tools and components, and the use of hands to handle and feel are required. Coordination and manual dexterity are necessary to safely operate overhead cranes, hoists, and related equipment. The employee must be able to reach with hands and arms, occasionally climb, balance, stoop, or kneel as required. Must be capable of regularly lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds unassisted. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision essential to safely perform assigned work. Work Environment Work is performed in a loud and uncontrolled manufacturing environment subject to extreme temperatures, as well as in office settings. Some duties may require outdoor work or exposure to varying weather conditions.
