Job Description:
Who We Are:
The Facility Operations Electrical group manages planned and emergency maintenance for SwRI's utility infrastructure, including a 40MW 13.8kv medium voltage main station, 14 substations, and related systems. We provide routine/emergency maintenance for building electrical systems (600V and below), plus design/build services, project management, engineering support, and power quality monitoring. We support SwRI, a nonprofit R D organization serving government and industry clients. By joining our team, you will receive an additional $500 in your first paycheck, minus taxes. Objectives of this
Role:
Maintain and repair SwRI's electrical infrastructure, including a 40mw medium voltage main station and 14 substations, to ensure continuous and reliable power across the campus. Execute electrical trade tasks with a focus on safety and efficiency. Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and applying new skills, managing personal activities to meet project deadlines. Be available for on-call duties, flexible shifts, and emergencies with short notice, ensuring prompt response to maintenance issues to minimize downtime and disruption to operations. Adhere strictly to safety protocols and guidelines in all aspects of work, incorporating best practices in housekeeping, tool handling, and material storage, to maintain a safe work environment. Interact with the Planon Maintenance system to log daily achievements, generate reports, and input or retrieve data. Use the Planon help desk request system to manage work orders.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures, safely operate hand tools, ladders, lifts, and vehicles to complete electrical work without harm to self, others, or the environment. Perform installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Respond promptly to electrical requests and help desk tickets to meet project deadlines. Work in hazardous environments with high noise, chemicals and fumes. Perform heavy labor in extreme heat, cold, or inclement weather conditions. Read and follow instructions, schematics, and blueprints. Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients to ensure job objectives. Collaborate with others or work independently to complete tasks. Demonstrate comfort working at heights and safely handling tools and materials.
Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Licensed Texas Journeyman Electrician. Able to lift up to 50lbs, work from heights, operate hand tools and execute lifts. Shift work required. 5
  • 15 years: Experience demonstrating ability to install, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical systems per NEC. 5
  • 15 years: Proficient knowledge of tasks, materials, processes, and tools for electrical installations while adhering to the National Electrical Code. 5
  • 15 years: Proficiency in using a work computer and phone for administrative tasks. Utilize Microsoft office for reporting and recording work activities. 5
  • 15 years: Experience working in hazardous environments with high noise levels, chemicals, and heat.
A valid/clear driver's license is required.
