An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.
$ 2 6 - $ 30 Position Summary The Journeyman Electrician (E5) independently performs skilled electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work in accordance with applicable codes, project specifications, and company standards. This role requires a high level of technical competency, safety awareness, and accountability for quality workmanship, while providing guidance and mentorship to apprentices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install, modify, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components Read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications Perform conduit installation, wire pulling, terminations, and equipment hookups Troubleshoot electrical systems and identify root causes of issues Perform testing, inspections, and verification of completed work Ensure all work complies with NEC, local codes, and project requirements Mentor and guide apprentice electricians Coordinate daily tasks with lead electricians or foremen Identify material shortages, design conflicts, or safety concerns and communicate them to supervision Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), permits, and lockout/tagout procedures Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and required training Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately Perform other duties as assigned consistent with skill level Qualifications High school diploma or GED required State-issued Journeyman Electrician license (where applicable) Operational understanding and working knowledge of the current NEC code and industry best practices Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Effective communication and teamwork skills Required Certifications and Training Journeyman Electrician license OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety
