Job Description

UTILITY LINEMAN
  • ELECTRIC & WATER/WASTEWATER Direct Hire Near Flatonia, Texas Monday
  • Friday 8:00 AM
  • 4:30 PM $20.00
  • 24.
00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
On Call:
Approximately once every 4-6 weeks.

While on call after hours, on weekends, the employee receives $220.00 that week, and if called out hours paid and overtime rate. About the Opportunity This is a hands-on, multi-purpose utility position with a strong electrical and lineman component.

The role is broader than a traditional electric-company or cooperative lineman position. In addition to electrical work, this position supports water and wastewater operations, equipment, generators, tools, supplies, meters, and general utility maintenance. This could be a good opportunity for someone with a strong electrical, utility, mechanical, or public-works background who enjoys variety and being involved in different areas of utility operations. Electrical & Lineman Work The electrical portion of the position includes: Construction and maintenance of transmission, overhead distribution, underground distribution, and substation facilities Locating and repairing power failures on overhead and underground lines Installing new primary and secondary electric service Maintaining and repairing streetlights and vapor lights Performing tree trimming in rights-of-way as directed or needed Investigating and troubleshooting shooting complaints and outages Assisting with identifying needed system improvements and providing recommendations Developing maintenance routines for infrastructure and equipment Ensuring only qualified personnel work on energized lines Performing hot-line work and maintaining awareness of energized conductors Digging pole and anchor holes according to specifications Framing, removing, and replacing poles Stringing, sagging, and tying conductors Operating bucket trucks and digger trucks Performing weekly inspections of facility generators Maintaining records relating to transformers, meters, and changes or installation of special equipment Maintaining operating logs, maintenance logs, repair part inventories, transformer data, oil circuit breaker locations, and other required records Water & Wastewater Responsibilities The position also assists with water and wastewater operations, including: Construction and maintenance projects such as pavement cutting, ditch digging, line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying, and backfilling Making water service connections to water mains, including line tapping and valve installation Cutting, fitting, laying, repairing, tapping, cleaning, and flushing water mains, pipe, gates, and fittings Repairing and installing water services and fire hydrants Assisting with shutting off broken sections of water mains Repairing, constructing, and maintaining water/wastewater main lines Installing and/or repairing water, wastewater, and storm drain lines and facilities Using heavy equipment to dig trenches for pipe installation and ensuring proper bedding and backfill practices Determining water/wastewater line locations before excavation Operating flushing and rodding equipment Installing water meters and fire hydrant meters Inspecting meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections Reporting leaks and other repair issues to the appropriate department Equipment, Tools & Utility Maintenance Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, cherry pickers, bucket trucks, digger trucks, excavators, motor graders, and similar equipment Operate light equipment such as weed-eaters, mowers, and similar mechanical equipment Operate pickup trucks, flatbed trucks, dump trucks, and other motorized equipment Maintain vehicles and equipment by servicing with water, oil, gas, and air Clean, lubricate, and maintain tools and equipment Perform routine visual checks on equipment and listen for unusual noises or vibrations Schedule regular equipment maintenance Order equipment, supplies, and tools as needed Clean equipment after use and train other employees on proper handling Submit recommendations concerning equipment and supply purchases Perform building and grounds maintenance as needed, including mowing, painting, and cleaning Assist with annual physical inventory Customer Service & Records Respond to customer complaints by taking calls, recording complaints, and ensuring issues are addressed in a timely manner Read water and electric meters, including exposing buried meters, accurately recording usage, manually closing meter box lids, and pumping water out of meter boxes Answer customer questions and explain how to read meters Re-read meters when needed Notify customers of leaks Turn water on or off Replace or repair meter boxes Connect or disconnect meters Complete work orders and other records related to work activities Maintain a daily logbook documenting operational failures of equipment and systems Submit monthly activity reports detailing operational needs Provide information to internal and external personnel Additional Responsibilities Make arrangements with contractors for jobs not performed by client personnel Travel to attend training and conferences Work overtime as required to complete assigned tasks or respond to emergencies Comply with uniform policy and use appropriate personal protective equipment May temporarily be assigned to work with other departments as needed
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Class B Commercial Driver's License required Valid driver's license required Clear driving record required Clear background required Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in electric plant maintenance and operation Good mechanical aptitude and proper operation of mechanical equipment Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at the level required for successful job performance Must be able to participate in the scheduled 24-hour, 7-day on-call rotation Company Benefits 100% employer-paid health insurance
