Minimum 5 Years of Alaska Construction Experience Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support the pursuit and delivery of commercial, institutional, civil, and federal construction projects throughout Alaska. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of construction estimating experience on projects located in Alaska and a strong understanding of the unique challenges associated with construction in remote and rural Alaska, including logistics, transportation, labor availability, seasonal constraints, material procurement, and weather-related impacts. This position will be responsible for developing complete and competitive cost estimates from conceptual budgeting through final bid, coordinating subcontractor and supplier pricing, performing quantity takeoffs, evaluating project risks, and supporting project teams during preconstruction and project handoff. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed conceptual, design-development, and final construction estimates. Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and general conditions pricing. Review plans, specifications, amendments, and solicitation documents to develop a complete understanding of project scope. Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations. Develop pricing for Alaska-specific logistics , including freight, barging, air cargo, mobilization/demobilization, temporary facilities, workforce housing, per diem, and remote-site operations. Evaluate labor productivity, crew composition, equipment requirements, and construction sequencing. Identify project risks, scope gaps, constructability concerns, and potential cost impacts. Develop bid clarifications, assumptions, exclusions, and qualifications. Maintain historical cost information and incorporate lessons learned from completed projects into future estimates. Assist with value engineering and alternative construction approaches. Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, design teams, and owners during preconstruction. Participate in bid reviews and present estimates and major cost assumptions to management. Support the transition of successful estimates to the project management and field teams. Assist with change-order pricing and project cost analysis when required. Support competitive bids, negotiated work, and federal/government contracting opportunities. Minimum Qualifications Minimum five years of construction estimating experience on Alaska projects required. Demonstrated experience estimating commercial, institutional, industrial, civil, or similar construction projects. Strong understanding of Alaska construction conditions and remote-project logistics . Experience developing estimates from conceptual documents as well as complete construction drawings and specifications. Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, labor productivity, equipment, materials, and subcontracted scopes. Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and independently develop complete estimates. Experience soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier proposals. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with Sage Estimating (formerly Timberline) takeoff software. Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications Experience estimating projects in rural and remote Alaska . Experience with federal, State of Alaska, municipal, school district, or other public-sector construction. Experience with vertical construction projects including schools, healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, community facilities, housing, and similar projects. Familiarity with federal contracting requirements, including Davis-Bacon wage requirements and government solicitations. Experience with design-build and negotiated construction projects. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent construction and estimating experience will be considered.
