Job Summary The Senior Industrial Mechanical/Piping Estimator is a key leader within the Estimating Group, responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive mechanical construction estimates for complex industrial projects . This role oversees the entire process of bid production - including quantity takeoffs, labor and equipment analysis, material pricing, subcontractor evaluations, and risk assessments—for projects up to $75M or higher depending on scope and self‑performance. The Senior Industrial Mechanical/Piping Estimator interprets mechanical drawings, piping and equipment specifications, isometrics, and contract documents to build detailed work breakdown structures and precise cost models.
Essential Job Responsibilities Project Estimation:
Lead preparation of detailed estimates for projects up to $75M, considering complexity and self-performance scope. Oversee discipline estimators on large multi-discipline RFPs. Validate quantity take-offs and ensure accurate input into estimating software. Apply advanced cost analysis and contingency planning for risk mitigation.
Technical Expertise:
Interpret and analyze P&ID drawings and other technical documents. Utilize HCSS HeavyBid software for accurate and efficient estimating.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
Represent the estimating team in client meetings, pre-bid conferences, and negotiations. Communicate clearly with operations, procurement, and project management teams during pre-construction.
Process Management:
Develop and enforce estimating procedures, including pre-estimate checklists and opportunity matrices. Oversee bid review meetings and ensure timely submission of RFIs and proposals. Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and company standards.
Strategic Contributions:
Provide pragmatic analysis of project execution to optimize efficiency and profitability. Generate high-level cash flow projections, risk analysis reports, and resource-loaded schedules. Support business development with conceptual estimates and ROM pricing for new opportunities. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in i ndustrial construction estimating, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Ability to read Interpret P&ID, Isometric drawings and other technical schematics. Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite emphasis on Project Schedule and Excel Tracking.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or related discipline Estimating experience with HCSS HeavyBid Direct Involvement In civil, concrete, structural steel, equipment setting, and mechanical construction. Scheduling experience with MSP or P6. Proven ability to manage multiple complex bids simultaneously. Work Environment:
Mostly Indoor office setting with controlled temperature. Occasional Outdoor industrial sites with exposure to extreme weather, potential exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, or other environmental factors.
Travel requirements:
up to 10% of time. This role requires compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
