Job Description
Flooring Estimator / Government Contracts Producer Continental Flooring Company is an Arizona-based, family-owned contractor providing nationwide flooring and ceiling tile services primarily to government customers. We are looking for a sharp, competitive, technically capable person who can help turn plans, specifications, bids, and customer needs into awarded contracts and booked orders. At its core, this is an estimating role. The ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, product requirements, and bid documents is essential. But the best person for this role is more than a calculator. This position requires someone who can think quickly, spot opportunities, ask the right questions, find creative but compliant solutions, and help us win work in a highly competitive government marketplace. Most of our customers are public agencies, military facilities, schools, and other government-related buyers. That means the process is professional, and rules-based. Many opportunities are black and white, but winning still requires judgment, urgency, accuracy, communication, and the ability to understand where Continental can bring the best solution. This role is well suited for someone who is analytical, technical, competitive, and opportunistic — someone who enjoys the challenge of figuring out how to win. With a few long-standing employees approaching retirement, we are currently looking for our next generation of leaders and collaborators to help us in this transition. If you are a self-driven professional candidate with a desire to learn and succeed, we would welcome the opportunity to have you on one of our teams. We may not build the next generation of self-driving cars or cure cancer, but everybody needs flooring! As one of the strongest in our field of expertise, our company offers a high-quality work environment with skilled mentors who know the industry and use a "work-with" rather than "work-for" style. Knowing our company's success comes from individual success, we strive to create an open-door and open-minded environment, working with you to achieve your goals and explore your ideas for improvement.
Responsibilities Include:
Review plans, specifications, bid documents, and product requirements Build accurate cost estimates from plans, takeoffs, specifications, vendor pricing, labor requirements, and project conditions. Prepare formal bid proposals, quotes, written responses, and customer communications. Identify creative, compliant solutions that help Continental compete effectively and win profitable work. Communicate with customers, vendors, subcontractors, manufacturers, and internal team members to clarify scope, pricing, product options, and bid requirements. Learn how to sell within a government-focused construction and materials environment. Negotiate, problem-solve, and follow up on opportunities to help turn quotes and bids into booked orders. Track details carefully, meet strict deadlines, and maintain accurate records in company systems. Some travel may be required. This is an in-office position in Scottsdale, Arizona, not a remote role.Qualifications Include:
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. Estimating, construction, flooring, subcontractor, supplier, or technical sales experience strongly preferred. Strong analytical and math skills with the ability to calculate quantities, costs, margins, and bid strategy accurately. Competitive desire to win, combined with the discipline to follow government bid rules and customer requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills; many sales are completed without ever meeting the customer in person. Good judgment, intuition, and ability to spot opportunities. Organized, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and highly accurate. Positive, self-motivated, can-do attitude. Ability to think quickly, ask smart questions, and solve problems under time pressure. Tech-savvy with the ability to learn estimating software, CRM systems, bid platforms, and changing business tools. Ability to pass background checks required for access to government facilities. Prior sales experience is helpful but not required. Continental Flooring Company is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, off the 101 freeway and Via Linda. We offer a salary plus incentive compensation structure and a benefits package including medical, vision, dental, vacation, and 401(k). Drug testing is a condition of employment per federal guidelines. Visit www.continentalflooring.com for additional information.Pay:
